Hetzner & OVH price increases – crisis in the hosting industry or just greed?
in General
What's going on with the hosting industry lately?
Hetzner just raised their prices by 40% - and this isn't the first time recently, they've already increased prices not long ago.
Now OVH followed with a 30–35% hike too. These aren't minor adjustments - it's getting out of hand.
Some examples from my own servers:
€539.99 → €684.59
€104.99 → €129.14
Is this becoming the new normal? Are we looking at 3 price hikes a year going forward, or is there something bigger going on in the industry? Would love to hear if others are seeing the same.

Did OVH rise prices on existing dedis?
Everyone does it follow web pro model
There is a major global hardware shortage. This is expected and will continue industry wide.
Pretty much any enterprise grade server hardware costs 3-5x what it was 6 ago.
Yes, this applies to all new orders as well as existing servers starting 1 April 2026 - including the ones I listed, which I had ordered months ago.
Good bye low end deals?
Where to see this? I got no mail etc
Dear Customer,
We are reaching out to let you know about a pricing update on a limited set of OVHcloud VPS and Additional IP addresses. This will apply on your subscription’s renewal date, provided it falls on or after Wednesday, 1 April 20261.
The pricing update applies to:
VPS 2026 range (VPS-1 to VPS-6) and VPS in Local Zones. Additional IPv4 addresses. This pricing update does not apply to the Kimsufi and So You Start server ranges. Service performance, availability, and support levels will also not change.
OVH email might take a little while to arrive. I've already received mine, so others should be getting theirs soon too!
Found it. RISE-S goes from €54.99 to €64.99
Here's the email I got today.

Archive.org shall be rich now.
Oh that's very sad news for the all ovh customers if they increased their prices.
Wow that’s a lot of dedis
Btw you can commit to old pricing still for some reason
I think the changes go live on 1st of April, ive just prepaid some servers for 6 months doesn't make much difference but still helps #costoflivingcrisis
Maybe its just a huge April fools joke and they arent increasing anything
I just commit one of mine to €49 instead of the upcoming €65
May be more cheap to host one in basement?
Definitely an option! Now it is time to shine @FlorinMarian !
just cancel all those iddlers, you greedy LET-ers. lol
RAM and SSD prices are no joke.
Damn, they cannot do this:
Scale-a4 - Gen3:
current price: $700/month
new price: $701/month
Time to move elsewhere.
Yeah, I don't have anything from OVH to suggest my dedi will be increasing in price. They just sent me an invoice this morning as well, nothing on there either.
EDIT: Oh, from the other thread:
I guess that's why, mine is Kimsufi even though all the e-mails come from OVHcloud.
Hm, I still undecided about their wordings regarding Kimsufi/SyS or Eco by OVH so far.
It could mean: no price hikes for those.
Or: crazy price hikes for those are coming in a separate notice. E.g. they also floated two dates: April 1st and May 1st for new prices...
I think eco range is pretty safe it wouldn't make sense for them to do it...but then again baguettes aint cheap
If you ever thought sense stopped someone before, take a look at Hetzner's new pricing
€47.30 ex.vat for a i5-13500 with another €99 setup fee
Need @beanman109 to flirt with katie again for a cheeky discount
Even the basements are not what they used to be...

@FlorinMarian what server is that?
Even 1 server is down, probably saving that ram and storage for cold days. Good good.
There is a cluster, 6 nodes in total, 5 of them active.
Yeah, that’s the storage node. It has 2× E5-2698v3, 256GB DDR4, 10× 6TB SATA + 2× 4TB SATA + 4× 1.2TB SSD, but its running costs are higher than the income. In the past, it was used for backups, but nowadays I keep the backups abroad to minimize the risks in case of an earthquake, fire, short circuit, etc.
