Best email host?

bobertbobert Member
edited February 23 in General

Looking for a new email host today.

Was hosting on hetzner but looking for alternatives due to the impending price increase and recently blocked by hotmail due to blanket banning hetzner subnets.

Don't recommend services like mxroute or cranemail. I need to send transactional emails for websites.

  • Can run mailu on docker (1.5gb ram 15gb disk, very low cpu requirements)
  • 99.9% uptime
  • Don't care about 100% deliverability, but not blocked by the big hosts like hotmail and gmail.
  • Some kind of ddos protection
  • Low and stable pricing.

That is what our customers do all day.

I don't want to get account banned if I manage to hit the limit randomly.

  • I actually already have mxroute for my webmaster emails and I just can't risk having the account banned because I'm sending more than 300 transactional emails a day on random days depending on how active my users are.

No one gets banned for going over the limit. Sure if your website goes absolutely bonkers I might block something to try to protect you from a registration spam flood or something. You gotta stop listening to spammers.

    Hi Jar,

Right now im paying protonmail 5 euros every month to keep my private email online, but to me that price seems overkill because privacy isnt build into the old mail protocols, i think im paying too much for just having a personal email.

    My questions is,

if i buy from your email service will it be reliable (always online & good delivery rate, also good backup incase something goes wrong), no email message rejects before they enter your inbox (spam rejects without knowing like gmail does), no compliance with the netherlands if they wanna snoop in my email for whatever reason.

Could you provide this at affordable costs? Less than the 5 euros/m i pay proton right now.

Edit: and can i use a preset domain you offer, i dont own any domainnames. Example: [email protected]

    Thank you!

I can't promise no issues. Even Microsoft has had a hard time promising no downtime and they throw way more money at it. I can't always guarantee I'm not going to reject an email that I shouldn't, because I have customers hounding me every single day about reducing inbound spam. I can promise the best outbound delivery that can be provided, but take today for example I'm facing outbound delays to Microsoft because they're having problems with their spam filters rate limiting people they shouldn't be (confirmed not the only ones experiencing this today). Life happens, nothing is ever perfect. What I can promise is that you have someone to yell at who is arguably more passionate about their work than anyone sane would ever be about email. You would however need to bring your own domain.

The limit is 400 per hour which is 9600 per day

    Thank you for being honest.
I’m probably a minority compared to your users, i rather have a few spam come in to make sure no legit emails get lost. I think protonmail doesnt really use spam filters, i tested their system and they start auto marking emails as spam asoon too many emails in x amount of time come in from the same sender, forcing those emails in the spam folder, i like this system because there are no false positives.

Another deal breaker for me is that you dont offer preset domains that can be used like [email protected]

If you can fix these 2 points in the future and the cost is below 5 euros/m i would be a happy customer of yours.

  • @jar
Would it be possible i sign up to a plan and that you completely disable all spam filtering? Im actually not dropping my email everywhere so i never had spam issues.
And then make for me an alias using one of your domains?

Not really. I give users too much freedom and inbound filtering is part of the strategy for protecting outbound reputation. You can turn off parts of it and crank up spam score, but there’s no 100% off.

You could get your own domain for about $10 per year.

Good suggestion but im a casual gamer.
It requires me to setup dns settings to make outbound emails not go to spam, its called spf i think?

Edit: im also horrible at creativity when it comes down to figuring out a proper domain name.

  • The last domain name i owned was called wasted24.com it was a NoMoreRoomInHell dedicated server with full free speech, no rules, no moderation. (Apart from me randomly joining the server banning people with as reason the N word while drunk)
Surprisingly it was a populair server, humanity sucks. But i did code my own sourcemod plugins and paid people to import skins in my server, you could wander around as Nico Bellic from GTA!

Also fine on Crane side. We have more than a few sites that also get higher sending limits if need be.

Best of luck on your hunt!
