    How are you man? Sorry about this. We did send out a follow-up email, and I apologize if you did not receive it. So that node did experience a hard disk failure which normally would have been fine as it's RAID-5 and we could have replaced it; however, shortly thereafter, there was a RAID card failure as well, unfortunately making it a total data loss. We will be sending out replacement VMs starting tomorrow. I do apologize for the trouble on this man.

    Yep. Unfortunately not the first time. At least the 3rd time of moving pods/fully rebuilding. Feels like my account is haunted. Finally cancelled the account today.

    The $7 VPS deals are solid but have has zero luck with the storage.

    Yea sure, so far I'm pretty happy with the services, just some latency between my location/other server to the server (MY/SG-NY) but it's ok not impacting much, some of the application i use like tunneling and docker container uses lot cpu. Storage wise most of the time will be used as backup (proxmox and no important file) and file sharing between my friend, S3 server (why not).
    Let's hope nothing happen :wink:

    Been pretty happy with your services so far. Was able to download custom iso, get it mounted, run install etc. with only minor hickups, mostly due to the console timing out during some of the operations. I'm not huge on benchmarking against shared instances and my usage is super light, so I don't collect those data, but using the terminal over ssh was responsive enough.

    That said, my storage instance was affected by the double-lightning-strike drive+RAID failure, and that was the second outage within a couple weeks where a bad disk was blamed (ticket #STX-165820). I always try to support new providers that are trying to kickstart their business, but I have to wonder what the vintage of your hardware is with this many failures. TLDR is a full server rebuild & configure with 1T+ of backup to re-upload for me. You might consider offering affected parties an additional free month on their service or something. Hoping for better luck going forward.

    Also, if you're handing out bandwidth and IPv6, invoices 23072, 22941, 23068

    Ok awesome, very glad you're happy. Got it on the latency, glad that it is manageable though. That is good info for me to have, I do like to know what use cases customers are using the VMs for, so thank you for that. We are pushing to keep things stable and make it a great experience.

  • Could you fix all those problems like permanent and massive packet loss due to an overloaded hostsystem or a maximum of 21 MB disk speed on the next host? Even after a refund the RDNS records weren't deleted.
    There's a reason why the thread was called dedicrack (https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/4695095#Comment_4695095).

    Now I read about RAID failures...
    Please provide a summary of the current situation. 2nd chances?

    Awesome man, I'm glad you're happy with it! I am definitely working hard to put in the flow lines and making sure things go well (I have learned a lot the past 8 months).

    Very sorry about the storage node; yeah, that was a unique one. I think the next move is to switch over to software RAID when we can, to remove that variable. I definitely appreciate your support. The support from our customers has been a major part of what has carried the business this far, so I do appreciate that from you. In terms of the failures, I think those will subside over time as we continue to upgrade things. That is a very good idea on the bandwidth, I am going to send out that offer to all who were affected on that node.

    How ya been man? We have definitely done a lot of upgrades since the sale and learned a ton! :) I was not expecting it to be so busy during that time period, but live and learn, right?

    Overall, service is better judging by customer feedback as well as our ticket load, though we still have more to do. I did a handful of updates in WHMCS over the past week or so; I had another planned for tomorrow that we are going to postpone 9 (will be sending out notice) because I need to make sure it goes smoothly, and there were a few incompatibilities we saw that we need to get handled before that update goes live.

    Storage nodes are mostly RAID 5 now, and I am still migrating a few over. I have definitely gotten much better at managing the nodes.

    One thing we will do on the next promotion is inform customers better, as we have learned who the storage nodes are best for. They are mainly for customers who are using them for 1MB sequential writes as opposed to 4k random writes. Being RAID 5, it is not best suited for 4k random writes. By listening to our customers, we have found who is basically "Living The Dream™" with our storage VMs and who is not.

    That node failure we had was a tough one; the HD failed and then, shortly after, the RAID card failed too, so it was a unique situation. We do plan on checking out software RAID in the future.
