AX42 -> AX42-U
1. 64 GB DDR5 ECC replaced with 64 GB DDR5
2. Impossible to upgrade RAM to 128 GB DDR5 ECC (Only non ecc exist)
AX102 -> AX102-U
1. 128 GB DDR5 ECC replaced with 128 GB DDR5
1. Impossible to upgrade RAM to 192 GB
Probably you still can upgrade ram via support/ticket, but looks like hetzner do another step due to ram shortage.

Wait, so they replaced ECC with non-ECC and limited quantity?
Yup, lets not forget the huge setup fee they wacked on everything aswell
Banking to the max.
Wait… ECC Ram is a need not a plus on Dedicated Servers. With all the servers they have they can maybe sell servers with less ram instead of non ECC.
ECC is needed for critical infrastructure, and long term processes, so I don’t think it’s the right thing to do.
I agree, but I must suggest not to run critical infrastructure on budget Hetzner Ryzen servers in the first place..
I’ve run critical infrastructure for years on Hetzner, and never had a problem. I had availability near 100% all the time and was better than others “higher” reliability providers such as Aws or Azure. Obviously it depends in the level of critical your running, for example no one will run a bank system on hetzner budget servers.
Well, those years passed, now you will have some problems.
Don’t think so, I already have a good number of Hetzner Servers right now, so at least it will not be a problem for a long time.
Their cloud/virtualization service is great, I use it myself for off-network servers, but I would be weary running very important stuff on the lower end line. Maybe I'm wrong, please correct me if so, but I don't think some (or most) of their Ryzen line has IPMI. Without IPMI you're pretty screwed if something happens having to rely solely on a linux rescue image. I think non-ECC vs ECC will be the least of worries for most people using the AX line servers honestly.
They offer a KVM console (3 hours free), and it’s really useful. Unfortunately, they no longer provide IPMI, but the KVM console is sufficient for many use cases.
Regarding hardware issues, their monitoring system automatically notifies the datacenter. With these two features, you get most of the essentials of an IPMI console.
The only thing I’m not happy about is that they’re starting to offer non-ECC plans at the same price.
Biggest thing with Ryzens at any provider is Mobo stability. And yes I had those Hetzner Ryzen servers with nonlogged reboots etc. Same with other providers. So if you really need it super stable, I would not use those.
So on one hand they raised the setup fee, and on the other hand they downgraded the server hardware...
It feels like Hetzner has become chaotic and unsettling.
Worst thing is actually that they slashed the PX line a few years ago.
That's... not the best move. With the uses people give to Hetzner servers they will quickly have additional tickets on this, I believe. However, if they got it cheap enough...
It depends, sometimes technicians may forget to update bios, or they used not fully supported hardware. Ryzen is made to be reliable, and I’ve personally experienced it. If you see these kind of issues you always need to open a ticket with the Provider ,because something isn’t going right.
Yes… it’s getting though. At this point since prices are going up, and specs are going down, it’s better(if you have the money to do so) to own the servers and put them in a datacenter, that’s exactly what I’m doing migrating everything so it’s self owned.
