  • Any chance to get unmetered @ 100 Mbps instead of 15 TB/month @ 1 Gbps?

    Hi,

This could be possible. The issue is that a constant 100Mbps is around 32TB a month, which I could do for about £28 a year.

If you can bring that down for me, I can improve on the price.

    Kindest Regards,

    Rob

I think £28/y is fine. Do you accept cryptocurrency payments?

Unfortunately, we do not accept cryptocurrency we only accept credit and debit cards and bank transfers at the moment.

  • Is there internet censorship/blocking/DPI?

    Hi,

The network is wide open for anything legal. No censorship here from us, though as a UK provider they do block the standard illegal stuff required by UK law.

DPI is only used for DDoS protection and stopping abuse. As long as you are not running botnets or scanning ports you be all good.

  • @VM6 said: DPI is only used for DDoS protection and stopping abuse. As long as you are not running botnets or scanning ports you be all good.

DPI should not be necessary for DDoS protection nor for stopping abuse. It is far more invasive than other, simpler monitoring techniques. Why would you need to do DPI?

To be fair DPI is a bit of a heavy word. We aren't sitting here reading anyone's mail. For me, its really about high speed pattern matching. A basic script is great for catching a simple port scanner, but it doesnt stand a chance against a modern Layer 7 flood where the traffic looks 100% legitimate on the surface.

it's just an automated system searching for known abusive signatures in real time. It's essentially a keeping things stable for everyone else without me ever actually seeing the content.

One of our servers was involved in the SolarWinds attack, and getting visits from security services was very trippy, so I could be a little more paranoid than many providers. I would never, ever snoop on people's data or traffic content.

Ah, I don't think that would count as DPI unless you're actually inspecting the contents of the packets. Simply monitoring IP:port combos to detect things like floods and port scanning wouldn't be DPI, whereas monitoring plaintext SNI, logging plaintext HTTP headers in packets passing through the network, etc. would count as DPI.

Spot on. It’s the L7 metadata we look at to mitigate abuse that L3/L4 filtering can’t catch. It's about signature matching, not content inspection.

An even smaller correction, but the VPS templates for Rocky Linux are misspelled "Rokcy" instead of "Rocky". ;)
