Vpn blockades, it begins

LeviLevi Member

First of its kind dynamic blockade order issued for 2 major vpn providers in Europe. This marks the start of era of unmatched censorship attempts in order to satisfy dmca moguls.

https://torrentfreak.com/spanish-court-orders-protonvpn-and-nordvpn-to-block-pirate-football-streams/

Next in line: private vpn servers.

This is the same Spain that blocks Cloudflare during football games. It's insane there, they are like North Korea with the internet, but only when football is on.

The mafia owns their football clubs, that's probably why.

    But no need to panic:

But with both companies operating outside EU jurisdiction with privacy-centric business models, it remains unclear if and how the order will actually be enforced.

Btw if you approach them, saying you are a VPN provider and want access to the block list, they will tell you, sorry we only give that to Spanish citizens who register... So they would not give it to these VPNs so they could not do blocking.

it's a fucking joke at this point, you can see all the IPs they block in realtime here: https://hayahora.futbol/#estado

and that's not even an exhaustive list because it's not public. I've seen several instances of websites breaking apart because X/Y/Z js/css library is hosted under Cloudflare, or websites outright blocked.

they're literally even blocking Twitch ranges, like what the fuck. Streamers have to use a VPN to stream ._.

Other countries are doing the same.
    https://torrentfreak.com/french-court-orders-popular-vpns-to-block-more-pirate-sites-despite-opposition/

This is why some vpn decide to pull their business out of certain countries to not have to deal with these stupid orders.

As one of the Mullvad ad's said, "Society that will trade privacy for safety, will loose both".

Unfortunetely, VPNs are under constant attack, because they let you bypass bullshit laws, like internet child protection, or in this case piracy.

I'm a Spanish citizen, and I don't think we can access the block lists. Particularly impossible to get access to the one LaLiga maintains as they have no need to make that public.

Also, VPN providers affected by the court order are being offered access to the feed, so do not spread disinformation, the situation is already bad as it is.

  • The end is... you already know.

We can see where this is going. First EU blocks citizens from accessing certain media. Then it cancels elections based on disinformation. Then it limits VPNs. Up next: blocking VPNs.

I would give an advice to EU leaders: simply buy the great firewall source code from China - this is much easier than loading ISPs and datacenters and providers with requests for limitations and blacklists.

I run a few dozen I2P routers myself, alongside Tor and Hyphanet (Freenet)! :)

It's really easy to set up, but uses a surprisingly large amount of memory compared to Tor.

How much memory does it actually use in practice, do you have an idea?

This is an interesting project indeed.

A random one I checked that I'm running shows 800 MiB RSS (standard glibc allocator, but jemalloc3 is similar).

I see. It's because of private equity
    https://www.forbes.com/sites/aslipelit/2025/03/05/laliga-fuels-growth-with-cvc-investment-while-taking-on-piracy/

LaLiga President Javier Tebas wants his league to reach new heights. And he is committed to do it collectively.

“We need to be together so we can grow together,” Tebas told 659 executives from 41 LaLiga clubs las week as the league and its investors, private equity giant CVC Capital Partners, evaluated the progress of LaLiga Impulso (Boost LaLiga), the joint investment project, in the coastal town of Tarragona, Spain. “Think long term,” Tebas said. “Not short term.”

Only time will tell what will happen long term. But LaLiga’s $2.1 billion investment deal with CVC Capital Partners has entered its fourth year, showing signs of global expansion and financial growth for participating clubs.

“We are very happy with the progress of the plan,” said Stefano Gastaut, a partner at CVC. “Impulso is a very ambitious project that La Liga is driving very effectively.”

The deal grants Luxembourg-based private equity firm an 8.25% stake in LaLiga’s broadcast rights for the next 50 years in exchange for a cash injection. League heavyweights FC Barcelona and Real Madrid opted out. At the time of the deal, LaLiga projected that the league’s total business value would grow from $26 billion (€24.2 billion) to between $35 billion to $37 billion (€33 billion and €35 billion) within seven to ten years.

While the long-term vision focuses on league wide growth, LaLiga President Javier Tebas has a more immediate battle on his hands: combating audiovisual piracy, which drains an estimated $630 million (€600 million) annually from the league and its teams.

The league’s piracy efforts are mainly in Spain, Latin America and Nordic countries, which are the most important markets for LaLiga. According to Tebas, Google and Cloudfare either facilitate or benefit from piracy. With LaLiga’s current technology, out of 400 piracy acts committed through Cloudfare, the league can block 100. The league is sharing this technology with many countries to help stop piracy acts. Tebas aims to do more, collectively.

“We have to be clear and take a stand against companies that facilitate piracy,” he told me. “We can’t go after these guys with a water gun.”

Exactly, The phrase "the mafia owns" lacks specificity and needs clarification.

With so many mafias owning and operating legitimate businesses to extract easy money it's hard to know which one we're dealing with in this case. The historical ties of the football mafias in Spain are well known but we are in new territory now, several very powerful mafias got an increased interest in the football business in recent years so things got murkier.

Formerly the football business used to launder illegal money but that's not needed anymore, why launder limited amounts of illegal money when you can just take people's money at will legally and in much, much larger amounts?

I am moving away from commercial VPNs and will just use VPSs or DEDI's for my person VPN. I don't use google or any other platform that can be annoying with non residential/VPN IPs.

No no no no no no, THE mafia. The one you're thinking of. It's not a metaphor, it's the actual original mafia.
