Ridiculously high CPU steal from layer7

Hello everyone, I recently purchased the layer7 Xeon Gold VPS in Germany about 3 months ago and initially, the performance seemed to be a little below average but acceptable. Sometimes the cpu steal would hover around 15-20%, so I made a ticket and they said that it was normal and that I should just wait for things to settle down. It has been running with acceptable CPU steal for a while, but recently in the past 3 days the CPU steal has become ridiculous, sometimes reaching up to 50%. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Seems to be a Germany skill issue? All my servers in France have 0.00% average steal. AMD in Germany has 1.54% average and Xeon has 0.00%.
@layer7
did they promise you dedicated cpu or shared cpu?
Hi,
i can currently not see any ticket regarding this kind of issue. Did you open a ticket?
If yes, please feel free to give me a ticket number here or via private message so i have the chance to understand where this complain comes from.
Please consider that even we are present here in this forum, its no official support channel. And especially without tagging us here, we might not even know it.
Please feel free to contact us in case of issues via ticket -- of course also follow up if you feel that a problem was not solved / still existing / repeating.
As to what you write:
i was just checking the Intel Xeon SP Cluster in germany, and it looks actually fine. Average CPU usage on each node somewhere between 50-60% -- without doubt not empty. But actually nothing that should give you 15-20% CPU steal.
It might happen that if ( too ) many sign up's for this service come too fast, the cluster wont be able to balance itself in time. So for a time period the CPU performance could be reduced.
Same can happen if (too) many VPS's ( that are located on the same node ) start to suddenly to use (much) more CPU they usually do, the Node CPU might become saturated for a time period.
But this should actually not happen too frequently.
In any case: If there are issues -> please write via ticket. If it happens again -> follow up and complain the hell out of it. You are paying money for the usage of resource X. If this is not delivered, you should definitly bring thins to the providers attention. If the provider tells you its solved ( or will be solved in a moment ) and it happens again, follow up and complain!
Especially with us this is a very good strategy as its embarrassing for me to take money for a service that is not according to the advertisement/contract. So you would have very good chances to receive at least free time for your server or even refunds.
Thank you very much to bring this to our attention! I really do appreciate this problem-solving mindset.
Hello,
As I explained in my post, I was having some CPU steal issues 3 months ago, and I opened my ticket then (ticket number #952044). I should have followed up, but I was just curious if others were experiencing the same issues and I did not mean anything hostile with my post. I appreciate that you took the time to respond and check into this. I'll continue using this VPS for the next month and monitor performance, and I'll decide what to do after that.
Thank you again for your help
I'm using the shared CPU, but I feel like the steal is really high even for shared resources
Hi,
that does actually not matter.
If its shared or dedicated. The server is supposed to have steal time somewhere around 0.x
If its higher, especially for a longer timeperiod you should definitely complain the hell out of the support!
So please follow up with the issue in the ticket....
