Hundreds of thousands in Leiria without power and lost my job. Need a full time job.
Hi everyone,
Not expecting pitty from anyone, just need to get a full-time job as soon as possible.
We had a huge storm in my city, Leiria (Portugal) that caused an enormous power outage, the entire city, hundreds of thousands with no power, thousands of people with no home. We've been with no power for three days already. High voltage power cables are all down. The city is starting to be powered using 200 generators and one super generator. Mayor expects to have the city partially powered within this weekend if all goes well. Unfortunately, my last employer didn't accept this and I have lost my job.

Most already know me here, if any company here needs a full time L3, my availability is: 8:30AM to 4:30PM GMT+0, Mon-Fri. As a father of two kids (single) I'm unable to adjust my schedule at all.
Not accepting lowball offers, looking for mid X.XXX.
Have a great weekend guys!

Damn sorry about hearing that. Hopefully you would receive a good offer in all the senses ASAP. Good luck
Hope all gets well for you and the city, asap.
5k for someone doing support, remote, strictly Mon-Fri, based in Portugal.
You are an optimistic man, that's for sure.
Hello,
I'm sorry about your situation. We've seen some of your comments, and it sounds like a difficult situation, but you can get through this
Here's a suggestion: if you can't find a technician job at a company right now, look for other options, different positions, retail jobs, etc
There are many ways to make ends meet. You could work for delivery apps, Uber, etc.
Don't focus solely on finding jobs in this sector. Maybe fate has something else in store for you, and you'll find a different type of job that works out well
Good luck!
Do you also offer support for mental and daddy issues?
Thanks
Can I have my invoice free for 3 more months? Jk bro.
It's just a comment, you can always see bad/good moments
That's gross salary. You get paid 2500 as an IT engineer in Lisbon, net, after 50% taxes. You also pay for experience, skills.
Thanks mate hope you're well!
Thank you!
I'll surely get something soon. Minimum salary isn't even enough for a rent here.
Yeah everything is OK here in Spain . Damn for the bad luck with the storms in Portugal . Yeah some dental projects moving foreword. Step by step . All the best wishes for you.
Yeah taxes in Spain and Portugal are prohibitives ....... All the days the things are going from bad to worse . And literally the services are going in same way as well.......not sure where all the tax money is going for sure ......wasted in something but well .... Meanwhile there is not another place in the EU with better conditions .....
That's great, I am happy to hear you're doing well mate!
Yeah, we never had such a strong storm. Winds reached 208 km/h.
2500€ net would be a very decent, above-average salary for an IT support role in Lisbon.
However, you’re not based in Lisbon, there is no 50% tax rate, have limited availability, and we don't know if you are an engineer or can evaluate experience since there is no LinkedIn or CV provided. But considering your history in the forum, we can take a guess.
You got fired because of power outage?
I am also left without job Miguel. Welcome to the club of our falling Europe!
No, that would be an unlawful dismissal. You can sue the employer for reinstatement or significant compensation.
Maybe the business was already struggling to survive in current economic crisis set by EU politicians. Maybe the power outage and storm damage simply was the final blow to an already crippled company. EU is falling, whether the media wants to make it public or not; cost of living keeps going up, while businesses try to survive (not thrive, but survive).
I'd say this is quite a pessimistic analysis. The EU has lots of issues, and cost of living is indeed a huge issue, but that is almost global at this point. Still, plenty of businesses are thriving and the economy is not going bad in many parts of the EU.
Please help him out with some pointers to these parts of EU. Besides, I am also curious where these parts are.
Absolutely agree. All the costs are going up . Eating all possible margins in the vast majority of businesses . No possible to not put higher pricing at the end of the day. So yes everything is going up unfortunately. Not sure from where you are. Speaking about Spain . Only the properties are +10% aprox or more in certain area in just a year. There is a fight for rents over +1000 euros basically if you rent a property you have a queue of 30 families who are ready to pay it. Obviously the prices of them are going to be higher day after day. Time to create a republic of Low-end somewhere in the EU !!!!!! Affordable living without worries.
Hang in there! You will get through this - never lose hope!
It depends. If you are owner of the property or half of it ( aka mortgage the bank is controlling your brain 24/7/365 ) Spain is not soooooooo bad . We have problems as well .....but it is OKish . There are another places that could be better. If you must pay +1200 rent + bills+ college + children .....you are out in the vast majority of cases .
Spain is doing great by many metrics.
Cost of living is the biggest issue in some places, but plenty of companies are THRIVING, in some of our most important sectors, particularly tourism and hospitality, renewables, construction and real state, pharmaceutical...
Well unfortunately for me and for the patients first thing that is removed is the dental health in general from the wallet. People are not doing great let s say. I see -10% aprox of patients respect 3-4 years ago and the bills are lower and the problems are obviously bigger. Patients have more financial limitations. I would say that generally speaking the wallet of a mid citizen in Spain has less possibilities than 5-7 years ago. 2015-2018 were better . The metrics and so on is another thread . May be like a country we are improving but the general person is not aware of that .
I agree with you that many mid-low income people is not doing that great, and it mostly depends on wherever they are paying rent or not.
Not really. I got an offer somewhere close to 10k from a company... can't remember their exact name but something similar to HoldMommy or the exact opposite of both... I'm getting old and forget things.
Yeah, I only earned that much as an employee when I lived in London working as a senior dev for a FAANG. Normal companies in the UK don't usually pay that much, especially outside the capital. I know the salaries in Portugal are significantly less than the UK too.
Obviously, sorry to hear about your situation, but I suspect you might need to adjust your expectations a little.
Thought the pay is way better or you don't count stocks and other forms of compensation here?
Sure, there are some FAANGs that pay more. When I was on £72k (no RSUs) I knew people that were on £100k at other FAANGs. But that wasn't my point, it was that outside FAANG, £50k is considered high even for senior devs. £50k is less than €60k and I know salaries are also lower in Portugal than the UK in general.
Anyway, good luck to him. If he can get it, fair play to him, just to me it seems unrealistic.
