Thanks to Alexhost and Hosteroid

Because of their very generous donations, FOSSVPS is able to grow and support the Open Source Community.

The response from the community has been extremely positive and we even have a FOSSVPS user donating a dedicated server coming online soon. I ( @msatt ) just added a second of my own servers (us2) in Los Angeles, so we have the US East and West coast covered.

We still have space available (read on)

FOSSVPS has no income and is a team of 6 volunteers. Apart from a free VPS there are no other rewards. This is driven by the community and is for the community.

If you missed our NPM update - clients that use our NAT service can use NPM (reverse proxy), which directs any domain name, port 80/442 traffic to your internal VPS IP address. So for web applications, it is no longer necessary to have a static IPv4.
Our version of NPM has been released as Open Source by @nstorm and can be of benefit to many hosting providers.

Absolutely FREE, no catches, no credits, no price bumps.
Server locations and end dates are always on our website at https://fossvps.org and currently are :-

  • Moldova Chisinau courtesy of Alexhost till 31th January 2027
    • US Buffalo Courtesy of MSATT till 22nd November 2026
    • US Los Angeles Courtesy of MSATT till 21st of December 2026
  • Romania Bucharest courtesy of Hosteroid till 6th March 2026

Rules for a free VPS

Free and open source software developers only.
White hat only
Not for commercial use
No service level agreement but we are good.
Don't be a dick rules
No excessive high cpu, disk or bandwidth

If you would like a VPS, just complete this form asking what you are developing and preferably some links to your previous developments.

Warnings

  • Multiple registrations will get you banned
  • Good reputation on this forum (no history, no server - sorry)
  • Failing to accept the verification email will lock you out from re-applying
  • Email address (purely for admin emails), don't make a request if you wish to be anonymous

Acceptance will give you 2 VCPU, 4GiB Ram, 64GiB hdd and provide NAT + IPv6 /96 access with either Ubuntu, Debian or Alpine in your preferred location.

We are genuinely doing this to help, so please, no abuse as it messes it up for everyone.

@vuanhson Afraid I have to be a bit strict now.
A recent 'incident' created by a person I genuinely tried to help resulted in nasty abuse (to me).
I do not mean to imply you would do the same. However it has made me reconsider the flexibility of the free service.
So I have to be strict as per our rules

Free and open source software developers only.

I am sorry but this is one of the cases of 'why can't we have nice things' - sorry :|

    Thanked by 1vuanhson
