The dataforest Cloud Is Here

Dear customers,

if you are reading these lines, you have placed your trust in us over the past years
- many of you for more than a decade. We thank you for that, and we will do
- everything we can to make sure it stays that way.

You have probably wondered why we have not released a new vServer generation
since the launch of „G3 AMD“ in June 2020 and why we have skipped the
traditional „Winterspecial“ in recent years. Today, we want to answer that question:

Because, aside from new hardware, we would not have had any real improvements
to bring you. And instead of repeating old mistakes and making promises we
often could not keep, we looked inward, invested one and a half years of work,
and developed - calmly and without rush - what we can finally present to you today:

The dataforest Cloud.

The dataforest Cloud was built from scratch and developed in-house. At launch,
the focus is deliberately on virtual machines; we will add further products and
features step by step as soon as they are ready.

The Cloud is a self-service platform: its features are self-explanatory and
reachable in just a few clicks. No tickets, no „can someone enable that for
me“. Our support is still there for you, but not as a necessary bottleneck -
rather as an expert backup for complex problems.

With the Cloud, we address virtually all of the criticism and missing features
that have been brought to us over the past years, especially (but not exclusively):

Automatic provisioning in just a few secondsTrue hourly billing, no minimum
terms or notice periodsDifferent product lines for different use casesCreate
and delete snapshots with a single clickManage backups directly in the
CloudVMs can optionally run entirely without IPv4 (IPv6-only)Scale resources
freely without involving our supportModern operating system selection (UEFI
and GPT)A consistent „look and feel“ instead of multiple outdated interfaces
Two-factor authentication (2FA)Highly available storage cluster (Ceph) for
redundant storage of your dataNo stuck creations, installations, or other
actions: if a step fails during provisioning or changing a VM, it is detected
and fixed automatically - without you having to contact us

Everything that has been good so far remains good in the dataforest Cloud:
we operate all systems ourselves on our own space in high-security
datacenters in Frankfurt and connect them via our own redundant internet
backbone. You can already request additional locations directly in the Cloud today.

Many of you have stayed loyal to the same product for more than a decade.
As much as that honors us, the discount code is meant to make it easier for
existing customers like you to switch to a modern product which, as a rule,
is not only superior in terms of price/performance, but will often simply be
cheaper than a model booked ages ago. Let’s send outdated hardware
 into retirement together :-)

With the Cloud, we have created a sustainable foundation for continuous
development through new features and ongoing modernization. Switching
is optional. However, we want to be transparent: for our products that have
been outdated for quite some time, there will no longer be improvements
such as the rollout of new operating systems. We will, of course, continue
to maintain running systems.

The switch is done by placing a new order in the Cloud and then manually
migrating your data (as with previous new generations). Our support is
instructed to allow more flexible cancellation dates for existing legacy
products when switching to the dataforest Cloud, and will be happy to
help you with any migration questions.

Viele Grüße / Best Regards
dataforest-Team

whats the minimum allocated cloud plan i can get?

edit: I see it, not so special, better get a vps.

  • but, most important question, do they have API for resellers?

  • Price also got upgraded.

  • amarcamarc Veteran

Also was kinda excited when I got email but then figured out it's same all for higher price and hourly billing. Good for something, bad for everything else (that needs to run 720 hours per month)

  • Would like to give it a try but as others have pointed out SMS verification is broken @dataforest

  • sms still broken @dataforest
