Hi @Turbo_Pascal -- Great question, and appreciate the kind words on the site performance! There's no real "secret sauce" here -- it just comes down to a clean software stack and not over-engineering things. For our main site, we run LiteSpeed Enterprise, leverage Cloudflare, and keep the codebase lean with minimal bloat. That combination alone goes a very long way.
You’re correct that our main site lives on its own dedicated environment, however the important part is that our shared and reseller hosting customers are running on the same underlying software stack -- LiteSpeed Enterprise, NVMe storage, CloudLinux, etc. On top of that, anyone is more than welcome to put their domains behind Cloudflare as well, which will absolutely help with caching and global performance.
By the way, we recently upgraded all shared/reseller hosting servers to our next-gen platform for even more performance! Ryzen CPUs, NVMe, CloudLinux 9, the whole nine yards. More details here if you're curious: https://blog.racknerd.com/racknerd-unveils-next-generation-shared-reseller-hosting-platform-powered-by-ryzen-nvme-and-cloudlinux-9/
Hi @Turbo_Pascal -- Great question here as well! There’s quite a bit going on in Southern California on our end, and we’re due for a site update to better spell this out at some point in the near future.
For shared and reseller hosting services in LA, these are deployed physically within Coresite LA2 (Cogent/PCCW/GTT/TATA/Zayo blend). That facility gives us strong network density and upstream DDoS protection capabilities.
On the VPS side, we actively operate out of Los Angeles DC-02 (Multacom) and Los Angeles DC-03 (ColoCrossing/1200 W 7th). DC-03 is temporarily out of stock at the moment, but we expect it to be back in stock shortly after the New Year once our new pallet of servers arrives.
Bare metal dedicated servers are a bit different, those can be offered out of any of our Los Angeles locations and are generally handled on a custom, case-by-case basis depending on hardware requirements and availability.
For most clients, you’re not going to notice any meaningful real-world difference between the LA datacenters. As @sh97 has mentioned, there can be some cases (for example, some users in certain parts of China preferring DC-02 due to certain carrier paths), but beyond that it mainly comes down to different physical facilities and slightly different upstream mixes -- its all within very close proximity.
By the way, it’s very common for providers to maintain a presence across multiple physical datacenters in Los Angeles. Many DTLA facilities have been at or near power capacity for years now, so spreading deployments across multiple buildings has become standard practice. For example, even within Multacom (DC-02), deployments are at times spread across two separate physical facilities -- 707 Wilshire and 600 W 7th (due to power). Despite the different buildings, everything operates on the same network, so customers don’t observe any noticeable differences.
If you have any particular needs, or if for some reason you need to be in a specific physical facility, please feel free to reach out to me with more details about your use case at [email protected] and I'd be happy to see how we can help
