Upload speed test script?

xyzxyz Member
edited February 2014 in Help

So I've seen some scripts which test a server's download speed from various locations, but is there any that do the same for upload speeds?
One would somewhat think that upload speed is probably more important than download for many servers...

Also, it would be nice to have decent geographic spread, without a heavy US bias (eg FreeVPS' script).

Any such thing available?

Thanks for the responses so far.

Is there a version with more locations tested?

Do you have a particular location in mind? I'll see if there's enough money in my piggy bank to get a VPS there.

Let me know if you need some sponsorship. :)

We wouldn't mind sponsoring a project like this out of SingleHOP's datacenters :). They wouldn't mind either. Chicago-1, Chicago-2, Phoenix-1, Amsterdam-1, and I've got a few more locations you might want as well: Scranton, Buffalo (not Colo).

Much appreciated. I'm currently looking for new POPs or locations where I only have one POP. I feel like more than two is excessive. Let me know if you have anything that fit the criteria.

I'll send you a PM. Thanks!

basically you can use all speedtest servers around the globe, simply change server id to suite your needs.

No particular location, rather a spread of locations.
The current list are mostly US nodes - it'd be nice to get a better idea of speeds to all parts of the globe rather than how traffic is routed around the US.

@fazar that looks nice - would it be possible to add more locations? Ideally at least one location per continent would be great.
I can understand not having too many test locations, but I'm hoping to get a better understanding of how a server would handle traffic around the world.

I don't really understand routing much and which providers go where, but I'd think that being geographically diverse should give a reasonable view of speeds over different links.

    Thanks.
