Love how she keeps trying to make the kitty or any kitty in general for friend and cuddle buddy. I watched her timidly get up and lay down, expecting to be swatted at  She starts a little bit away and will slowly inch closer and closer.

    Both very cute

It's very cute when she gets slapped/clawed as she will cry, get a little distance, and will lay down staring at the cat with a sad face. Like my brain thinks she's saying "I just want to love you, why won't you love me?" She's done this sad staring with every cat she's met since none have wanted to be her cuddle buddy yet. She has worked the "bubble" down on this cat for a long time. Originally he would have gone into claw/slapping mode and then would run away if she got within a couple of feet. I hope one day she gets him to truly cuddle! She definitely hasn't given up and keeps pushing the boundries slowly (how she's got to be this close without him freaking out)

Before her, I've never had a dog so determined to have a cat be a cuddle buddy. It has always been they're not interested or interested until the first slap/claw and then that interest goes away. Never has been this "inch closer pushing my luck until the day you love me!" that she's been doing.

All of our dogs have been buddies with our cats.

Before I was born, we had a cat that was run over about a week after delivering a litter of kittens. The (male) dog we had until I was about 8 assumed the role of surrogate mother, and would carry the kittens around the house by the scruff of the neck just like a mother cat would, lick them clean and let them all snuggle into his fur.

Not long after that dog died, we got two twin puppies, one male one female. The cat we had already was used to the nice dog and I think just assumed that any other dogs in the house would be nice. She probably trained the puppies against being too boisterous, but certainly she also used to sleep with them along with her kittens who were born when the puppies were still young.

We moved to a new town and the cats didn't like going outside the (very small) garden because we lived backing onto a field where lots of dog walkers went. However, every night when we took the dogs out for their last evening toilet trip before bed, the cats would come along and walk underneath the dogs for protection. I'm sure the dogs hated that when they were looking for somewhere to go to the toilet, but they never really objected and were actively protective of the cats when other dogs walked past.

hehe, doggo is asleep by my feet dreaming. At least I think she is as she's twitching/pretending to run. I'm totally going to let her sleep for now but I will eventually have to wake her up for the "bedtime" potty. She would be fine until morning but then she will forsure wake me up early and I rather attempt to sleep in and a break tonight will give me more time in the morning :)

Lol, the pretending to run always cracks me up!

it's funny but I love when when they do the little woofs in their sleep, especially when they don't usually bark at all

Exactly! Thats so funny, especially when it comes all of a sudden!. Mine doesn't bark much except for when he notices people around the property.

Yeah, I adopted my current dog in 2021 and she has only barked like a dozen times, mostly towards halloween "scarecrow" type decorations. It's so rare that I forget she knows how to bark and what it sounds like. She's also only growled one time when we were hiking in the black hills and a bear came strolling by fairly close. Like, I totally don't mind her getting aggressive in that situation. Otherwise, she's super friendly and social, honestly, a little too social.

It's cool you adopted by the way!

Yeah, adopt or rescue is all I ever do. I used to always adopt old dogs but it got to be too hard on me. Not saying I won't adopt old dogs anymore, I just needed to take a break from it. Last couple have been a few years old. I do love puppies but know a lot of folks won't even look at dogs that aren't puppies so I'm happy to look at them.

I never did it with dogs as I always had specific wants/needs. Like, had rottweilers before to keep me safe :) Gotta properly train them from birth to make sure they're reliable.

Now it's just the old labrador. Since a lot of kids around usually, must have an easy going dog. I hope he'll stay with us for another couple of years...

Then I'll probably also look into a rescue dog or something. Been thinking about maybe going without a dog but I'd miss the strolls and company I'm afraid.

Final say will probably the kid. She's never been without a dog (got him couple of years before she was born) . They're like, always together so she'd be heartbroken.

Always did have rescue cats though. Always wanted a kitten, never had one as I'm a sucker when visiting a shelter. :)

Just one left now, 23 years of age. Had to put down the other past week unfortunately, was one year younger.

Oh, I'm a sucker too. I can't volunteer or go to shelters as I always want to leave with everyone! It's even worse after I lose a dog as I am one of those that feels like something is missing from life without having a dog.

    Totally get that feeling!

Yeah, it's ok I guess. She was suffering from a kidney condition. Was getting worse. Could probably have stretched it for maybe a couple of months but doubt it would have been in her best interest.

Had a good life, will get a paw print in chalk (?) next week.

    :'(
You probably know best and glad you weren't selfish and extended it too long. I know sometimes folks are that way! I know there's been a few I've wanted to be that way but friends or family usually done a reality check with me about it if I start getting selfish about it.

Yeah, must admit thouy, it's even harder with dogs. Like, The connection is different.

My lab got me through a rough patch in life... When he goes, it's gonna take me a moment to recover.

Guess you mean plaster. Sounds like a cool idea. I only have a few photos of my cat.

Mine died from organ failure too, and very suddenly. I'd gone away from saturday morning to sunday evening, and left out loads of food like I normally did in such cases. Came back and she'd not eaten any of it. Thought that might be the end as I know cats start going wrong (especially liver) if they don't eat for more than 48 hours, so I tried to get her to eat some gravy from the food using a syringe into her mouth. She was determined not to swallow anything. Came home from work the next day and looked out the window and saw her in the back garden literally banging her head against the wall, was the saddest thing ever. She came running when I called her, but I could tell she was in pain, so decided then and there that she was going to the vets immediately and probably needed to be put down (she was already 14 ish and had got pretty slow over her last year). The vet examined her and said he thought she already had multiple organ failures, and almost certainly not eating the food was the result of being in pain rather than the cause of the organ failures.

Yes, plaster! Couldn't find the right word!

And such a sad story! It's kinda a sad thing to be talking about on a thread like this, but in some way.... It makes things ... Know whadda mean?

Oh, that's so cute! Mine are like that. Especially when the fireplace is on. Trying to get the best spot but eventually the cat always cuddles up against the dogs stomach. Such a peaceful thing to watch!

Maybe over Christmas break I'll work on something or even over the year so I'm ready for next year.

Though I haven't decided yet once I do make something if I'll set it for every 15 minutes (XX:00/15/30/45) or every 30 (XX:00/30). I mean, I don't really think anything faster is needed unless it's towards the end of the engagement contest and folks are really close to each other. Though, I think that would make it more fun not knowing where folks are actually at between intervals if they're actually that close!

Hey Pudlez, going well. Well-rested and since I worked for almost the whole day yesterday, I can take work slow today. But, still need to complete work before Xmas so that I can work on other projects.
So, will be posting here and working, as usual.
BTW, wonder if Dustin would be up for a last day giveaway special?

True, but, for testing purposes, I believe you can most conveniently use a closed thread as well, if I am not wrong. Even if not, you should be fine, cause if I remember, the NY thread stays for a long time and is prolly closed only when a new thread is up.

Yeah, I mean it will only be reads but I don't want to deal with all these comments/pages right away in case I want to change the entries I put into a DB. Plus, there won't be much activity afterwards so I wouldn't be able to truly verify it picks up on the last page it previous did. I mean all else, I could use some other random thread on LET that I know will get comments/multiple pages. I mean they will be perfect for making sure I have all the core logic down. Searching for dub requests/etc. would just be find the proper DB query.

Searching for dub requests/etc. would just be find the proper DB query.

Oh, you are right. The activity might not be the same as these months. Anyways, I wish you luck.
BTW, what are you planning to use - Python?

  • I have opened up a notepad and made a note about all the data I should capture

    • comment id

    • is comment a reply

-- comment id that was replied to

I'dunno though, just what I quickly made notes on. Only added the reply thing because I think it would be interesting to also have a way to see like "PuDLeZ most replied to noob404" or similar type things. Though I wouldn't be generating those details constantly, maybe like an "end of day" type of thing at most. Either way, just trying to think of everything right away...

The reply to thing sounds cool. BTW, trk was asking for suggestions, and I recommended post count prediction, as well. I mean how many comments would the person have at their current pace on a set date. Dunno how hard it is to implement though.
