It's re-stock right now, however we just add another HK location

Thanks for reliable VPS, and I want to increase time about double transfer data ticket

  • forestforest Member

I got one of these BF deals and so far it's been a good experience, with one little hiccup regarding poor support: My VPS was temporarily suspended for "sending spam emails", which was apparently claimed because my IP was on three blacklists. But here's the thing... Every IP on their entire /24 was on two blacklists, not only mine.

They did admit that they weren't regarding one of the blacklists because it was unreliable in their opinion, but ignored the fact that the second blacklist also included their entire /24 because it came from a "poor reputation range" and that the third was just an aggregator that referenced the first two.

While it did get unsuspended, support was entirely unhelpful and made me answer the usual "how will you secure your server so this doesn't happen in the future?" questions (I work in infosec and know how to secure a VPS). Note that no abuse complaints were received by them.

I love the VPS otherwise but, given this experience, I'm probably not going to renew it when the time comes.

    Hi,

First of all, thank you for this honest review. The standard question about how to secure your VPS after receiving an abuse report is understandable, as the VPS is entirely leased (IP) and not owned by us, and we maintain our IP reputation and other important matters. Just because someone is professional in their work doesn't mean everything is always OK, including ours, of course.

However, the ignored RBL is not our opinion. You can read a lot of information here: https://uceprotect.wtf/, and we weren't referring to this RBL, as there were 3 RBLs previously. But again, after reviewing the case, we immediately lifting your VPS from suspension.

Thank you again, and we apologize if this caused stopped in your work during that time.

I understand, and the problem I had was that it wasn't my IP that was on the blacklist, but that the entire /24 was and that it led to me being accused of sending "email spam". If I was told that, after review, it was noticed that it wasn't my IP but the whole subnet, I would have understood.

So it wasn't the (temporary) suspension that bothered me, but the response. It just left a bad taste in my mouth, that's all. Other than that, the VPS is working fine. Good price especially for the bandwidth, low CPU steal, and solid uptime. :)

So they suspended your vps without proof/evidence but just a hunch. I wouldn't call that a good experience.

Well, not a hunch but a misunderstanding. As far as I'm aware, all they knew is that their monitoring systems said my IP was on a blacklist, but they didn't realize that all the other 255 IPs (yes, including .255 and .0) were also automatically added to that same blacklist and that my IP would have been added even if my VPS was powered off the entire time I had it.

Some blacklists just work that way; If they get enough spam/C2 activity/scanning etc, they just add the entire subnet and be done with it. Usually that should be a sign that the provider has to be more careful with the IPs they lease, not that every single person on that subnet is now "email spamming".

So what if your IP is on a blacklist? Some random Joe can decide to add ANY IP to some blacklist at any time. Maybe Joe decided to blacklist your IP 6 months later when the actual spammer is already gone and you inherited that IP. The point is that your vps should get suspended if there's actual evidence that you're spamming from your vps, or at least an abuse report showing the email trace and timestamp.
