Yah, right. They are universal, no doubt. I do not challenge that. But, I was talking about the India-specific situation, where employees are just use-and-throw. It's very easy to replace an employee here than in the UK/US where there's severance pay and all those regulations to deal that. Labour laws here are pro-corporate, like highly pro-big companies.
Kudos to you to quit a FAANG, cause here, most youngsters with the obligation of a whole family on their heads don't mess with it, cause they can be unemployed in a jiffy.
Oh no, I have been trying to go solo there. This spot in particular has some serene locations, great for meditiation and what not.
I know what you mean, really, I do. But, it's prolly pretty clear by now, I obsess a lot over things. This debt has been on the back of my mind. I hope to clear it off asap, with some miracle maybe. The moment I pay it off, I am booking tickets to Hampi, no questions asked.
Back and forth, it's a 5 day trip. You won't believe me, I still have the custom itinerary I had planned 3 years ago, when I had almost planned on it.
Personally, 'd say don't get too worred about the debt. As soon as you clear t, you'll fnd another way to end up n debt. Mortgage, whatever.
The mportant thng s that the nterest payments aren't too much and that the total amount of debt s descreasng at a manageable pace.
F you can pay t off n a year wthout stress, that's much much better than nearly kllng yourself tryng to pay t off n a month. As long as you're gong n the rght drecton, t'll all work out OK.
BTW, just called up my boss and the unexpected happened. Told him the situation, and he was happy enough to postpone the deadline to the original date. He even gave me tips to battle diabetes and wrist and shoulder pain and what not. Hope he doesn't track back on it tomorrow. Relieved a bit now.
I have tried everything, but, this isn't something that can be re-worked unfortunately. I have only a few months to pay it back and no more extensions. My job alone won't pay for it. That's why I am here. Doesn't seem to be working so far.
5 days s easy to fnd tme for. There must be some publc holday that's more than 5 days. Just go then. Tell your famly that you've wanted to do t for years, you'll be fne, and you'll be back n a week. Then just go.
Oh my family isn't the one holding me back, what is, I have already told you. The next big holiday is prolly in March or April. Might have to plan for then. I also have to find a way to pay off a majority by then.
Nce result!
Now frame that result n terms of what you dd. You proactvely told hm the stuaton and he responded. Don't let yourself be the person who just does what everyone else wants, take control of your lfe for yourself, and you've just made the frst step at that.
Hello, I would like to double my bandwidth.

Thanks!
There are always dfferent places to borrow money from. Stay away from loansharks or even anywhere that's more than about 8%. Above that, the nterest will snowball too fast to ever pay. But there's always another opton.
And honestly, f the debt s small enough that sellng half a PC wll cover t, then t's not that serous. N the absolute worst case, you could sell some other thngs to cover t or whatever. Don't buy a new laptop, but use the current one for ten years nstead of fve. F your keyboard breaks, just make do, etc...
But anyway, don't make the debt the focus of your lfe. Spend your tme enjoyng the fun stuff, just do enough that the debt decreases each month so that there's an end n sght.

Thank you for that. I wasn't hoping for that response from him, tbh.
Appreciate the tips. Will put them into action, the best way I can. And yes, every spend has been put on hold. I am still using a 10 year old laptop, which has been with me, without any major issues (touch wood). I plan to use it for another 5, if all goes well.
Tbh, commenting here, interacting with everyone has been the fun stuff for me, most of the time. And, the fact that it might help me pay off a major portion of the debt as well is an additional bonus.
I hope everything I am working on pays off, in the near future. Have lived in fear of almost everything for almost 4-5 years now. Just need to get out of this cycle at the latest. That's all I wish for 2026.
Juggling work and this now. Been asked to take ample breaks in between, do some wrist and shoulder exercises.
BTW, for some reason, he asked me to stop using the massager I have been using.
FWIW, spendng tme on ths thread s about the worst thng you can do. Same for me to be honest.
F you really want to mprove your overall stuaton n lfe, don't be passve (ncldung hopng for handouts on the thread). Nstead of spendng 5 hours a day on the thread, learn somethng, start codng somethng that solves a problem you want solved. Maybe the frst 20 thngs you do are crap, but maybe one of them s your tcket to a better lfe. Don't do that stuff tryng to make somethng to make money though, do that stuff to make a better you, and eventually somethng you do wll get lucky.
I understand your viewpoint, but, no, posting on the thread all day is not the only thing I do. In between, I am working on projects and even working for the boss as well. This is why I prefer conversations such as this, easily manageable and I learn a thing or two. But, time for that has passed, Ig.
At this point though, I have spent almost a month taking time to increase my post count, and it feels really futile to give up on all that work right now, even though I know I might not win the PC. I am not sure if you get my point, but, this is where I am.

'm not sayng to gve up on the thread, just pontng out that all the tme you're spendng readng t, postng on t, etc, s all tme you could be dong somethng else. Doesn't really matter what, just anythng to make you a better you. Read some books. Pant. Learn a new skll. Whatever.
Not to say ths thread s totally useless. You're speakng Englsh and learnng new expressons. You mght wn a new PC. But look at the cost of that too. Not just of the tme, but the opportunty cost of not dong somethng else. Defntely takng a break from stuff after the end of ths thread and not jonng another s a very good dea.
Yah, I understand. No, I was never implying you were trying to get me to quit the thread. Tbh, today's Doctor's visit was a wakeup call for sure. The Doctor did imply that I had to be really careful with losing sleep and taking stress, esp. if unwanted ot unnecessary. So, yes, I am trying to find the perfect balance right now.
Part of what 'm sayng that 've held off actually sayng because the word themselves scare people, but 'll just say t.
Don't let yourself have a v_ct_m mental_ty.
Most people who hear that wll mmedately thnk "but 'm not a vctm, ths sn't for me". That's not what t really means. T means don't be passve. Don't just let thngs happen to you and thnk you have no control over t. Be n control of your own lfe. Go for thngs. F you fal, you fal, that often happens, but f you don't try you defntely won't succeed.
N terms of ths thread, you're defntely gong for t. That's good, and you should stck t through, but for the future, go for thngs that you can control. Spammng a thread hopng that some company wll reward that _f you spam enough sn't beng n control, t's passve. Even f you wn ths one PC, that's just solvng today's problem, t doesn't make you a better verson of you. Just thnk, dd Dustn get where he s today by hopng someone else would gve hm a busness, or dd he go out there and buld t hmself?
I didn't tell the Doctor about the whole thread and work situation and such, but, he was experienced enough to see that I was sleep-deprived and under stress. Hell, most of us working in IT can be very easily differentiated based on how our undereyes look. So, I am taking his advice very seriously now. I don't wanna end up spending more than what is require don hospital bills now.
I knew just pouring my heart out and talking about my issues would have someone call me out with that phrase. We are on a forum, so, I was well-prepared for that. But, the truth is, when I do post about my problems, I don't want anyone to respond, no one to sympathise or have mercy for me. I have no one who I can talk about these issues with, people who I love and care for, I don't wanna burden them. So, me posting about these issues is just me venting out, so that I can feel a little lighter.
For example, how bchot did as well. He prolly was also just looking for a place to vent out and that's it. No validation or anything expected.
And, I am not sure if you know, it's been kinda tradition for RackNerd threads atleast in the past few years where we discuss everything under the sun.
And, don't mistake me. I expect 0 sympathy, but, when a total stranger replies to the comments just saying, "it's gonna be alright, just hang on," like you did, in your own way, i dunno, it kinda gives me hope for tomorrow. Can't explain it.
I do remember back in last year's BF thread, me and FAT32, iirc, had a quick chat about family, obligations, relations and what not. I guess, that's how rn threads are.
T wasn't mean to call you out. T's a very well recognsed and understood ssue that affects around 1/3 of the workforce.
The pont s not to look at the label, but to understand what t means. There are two alternatve paths:
These examples all have the same outcome, but how you see them completely changes the percepton you have about yourself.
That's why _ started by sayng v_ct_m was a bad word to use to descrbe it. gnore the word, focus on the method of takng control of your lfe.
