@PulsedMedia what do you say to yet another example of your incompetence? Shall we put in an application to have you banned?

iirc the BF deal literally said that it excludes support.

That's not an excuse if the service just doesn't work as advertised, though. You can't sell sawdust hotdogs at a discount and say no refunds because they're discounted.

Sure, they can. There's no refunds on clearance items all the time.

Unless you meant sawdust instead of hotdogs, but that's a different case.

There's a big difference between saying you can't use the web panel and the web panel doesn't work.

I'm not sure why you're not posting actually useful symptoms to get help from more people.

Getting effective help correlates with effectively asking for help.

P.s. if you get a torrent adding browser extension, it's just a matter of entering in server details...

Probably a shared server and counting everyone's storage, but pay attention to the drive I/O speeds

i have three pulsedmedia shitboxes and they perform just fine. perhaps noisy neighbours is to blame for some poor experiences

  • @lewellyn said: Unfortunately, I cannot use their web panel to successfully add a torrent to ruTorrent and I can't figure out the rTorrent RPC info to handle it like any other seedbox I've ever used.

    Sorry i don't get it.

YOU are not able to handle rTorrent / rutorrent and you are blaming them?

If your support request has the same tone as your post here - i tottaly understand them.
    What do you expect?

Do you know what torrent is and how it works? Or could you specify your problem so somebody might help you with it?

I'm not PM support, but have used rtorrent's web interface for years.

If Add Torrent (globe in the upper left) doesn't work, you can drag a .torrent file onto the page and it will upload.

rtorrent's web interface hasn't been maintained in years and there are bugs. Add Torrent only allows 20 (I think?) at a time, for instance.

We are planning to update these soon, but we have made so much changes lately we don't want to add to it. Stability and Reliability always comes first, big changes small amount at a time so we catch regressions early.

If you mean ruTorrent, a new guy picked it a few years ago and fixes and updates have been happening madly since. Anyway the "Add Torrent" limit you mention was a php limit not a bug, one of several tweaks heavy users make.

Even rtorrent itself has been getting heavy work this past year, some seedbox provider started paying rakshasa (whatbox iirc, but don't quote me).

    https://github.com/Novik/ruTorrent/releases
    https://github.com/rakshasa/rtorrent/releases

Yea there's been finally activity on this stack. We tried to hire Rakshasa years ago, but he had other things back then.

Glad to see progress. We'll be updating soon(tm).

okay, one guy has poor tech skills bought a BF VPS which has no ( or low ) support......and he is fvcked

lesson learned, don't buy BF deal if you are a rookie. :) :D :) :D

That's true to some degree, but if he'd given the guy the response he posted here in the thread instead of the generic fuck you that he did give, would this thread even exist?

    edited to be more pleasant.

We gave him the standard ask Discord reply, he even himself admits he didn't bother. Our Wiki also has the answer.

Every ticket first level is a triage; Is there an answer somewhere else, or is this beyond the scope of ensuring our service works technically.

You clearly took an effort to find the "worst one", 3 vCore VPS for Seedboxing which excels on networking. Kudos for you.

Here is couple other ones from same site:

Quite different results. If this would also show € to Performance ratios ...

The most interesting results: None of our direct competitors are even present on the site. None that i could notice.

Thank you for the source. this was very interesting page, i haven't heard of Server Verify before.

I invite people to run yabs.sh more on our servers and post them publicly. It is helpful for everyone.

@OpaqueRegistrant said: say no refunds because they're discounted

All our seedboxes come with 14 day moneyback guarantee, only dedis do not come because costs are accrued on the moment of delivery. However, we are working to change that too. You can find the policy from https://wiki.pulsedmedia.com/index.php/Pulsed_Media_Refunds_Policy

We'd like to offer 30 day moneyback, but then MJJs just order 1month, refund, order again, refund, order again, refund ... [infinite loop].

We are also very lenient on terminations, we give 4 days until suspend and 18 days to termination after due date.

We prioritize technical issues over emotional reassurance; We put 90% into technical, 10% support. Some of our competitors do exactly the opposite.

    Canned Reply Contents

For the curious; the canned reply bulk of content is:

We are really sorry but we are unable to help in every single possible way of using the service on a one on one basis. We just do not have the manpower for such as the ways to use are as varied as there are users. That means sadly that you will still have to use the actual service yourself.
If there is a technical or server issue, we are here to help but sadly we are unable to teach every user individually.

    Enhancements made

Just updated it to contain more links, to wiki, knowledge base etc.:

Your answer might be in one of the following sources

If you still feel there is an technical issue with the service, simply reply to this ticket. Please be concise and straight to the point on what you need help with.

That ought to help a bit further.

    Future enhancements, call for help

We obviously need more documentation, user guidance, examples how people use things.

Let us know of it! Best is shoot it here on LowEndTalk, then make a ticket with us linking to the thread to collect some sweet service creds. With service creds we are really generous often. Months of service or straight up service credit.

  • Now I'm gonna buy one just to see if it's bad. I need some ratio on my tracker anyway. Reading the above is just basically what my day job is. Extracting info like teeth from people who supposedly want help. Will report back in a bit.

  • Ok spent ~$10 for a 4tb seedbox. Installed autodl-irssi in about 15 minutes. Set the plugin up with instructions from my tracker. Added some filters. I'm uploading at rates I expected. Had access to everything I needed via ssh. Everything works as far as I can tell. The minios.torrent you linked added and downloaded just fine. All I did was pay, follow the links in the email, and profited.

If you actually have an issue with things not working when you click buttons I would suggest you take some screenshots and make a REAL support ticket with the amount of info anyone would expect actually wanted their problem fixed. You want it to work, they don't want complaint threads on the forum. They are not wrong though. AFAICT used as they give you instructions.... it's fine.

Personally I would prefer having autodl-irssi auto installed as its the preferred method on a lit of private trackers to setup a seed box. This was not trivial to do, I just happen to use irssi daily and the docs are reasonable.

It takes time, this is not standard support but actual development.
Here is the support charter: https://pulsedmedia.com/support-charter.php

I personally responded to several tickets yesterday saying "docker not work", letting each and everyone know this will take days to resolve.

    I guess we should write some public version of how to write a good support ticket, here is one of the canned replies;

Please provide a proper error description

Without proper error description we cannot solve your issue.

    We need the following:
    1) What you were trying to do or what were you trying to access?
    2) What happened versus what did you expect?
    3) What where the error messages? There is almost always an error message - and usually it tells you clear as day what the issue is.

We need proper information in order to be able to help you. Vague descriptions do not > help anyone, quite to the contrary. Please be specific and technical, post error > messages and/or logs.
Failure to do so means we cannot help you.

First steps is to look into the knowledge base at: http://pulsedmedia.com/clients/knowledgebase.php
    Or wiki: http://wiki.pulsedmedia.com

Read the error message you receive in full. Usually it is self explanatory. If it says something along the lines "Access denied", "Unauthorized"; It usually means exactly that. Recheck your password.

There seems to be a new regression with docker. Moving from Deb10 (Old version) to never Deb10 broke it (overlayfs) and again sometimes on Deb11/Deb12 not just getting installed.

Overlayfs is broken for some, and you can change storage driver too?. Someone said he did that. For some works flawlessly.

I couldn't quote the docker install cloudflare some protection popup would come. had to remove it. @lol_fire can check the original and try.

Some prefer Autobrr too. We could add a script to install it quickly.
We consider it advanced user feature, hence like decade ago decision not to include by default; Too much support load from people who didn't understand what it is.

    We have this page: https://wiki.pulsedmedia.com/index.php/Installing_autodl-irssi
The warnings were added 9+ years ago.

Not even certain if that script still works. Should have also Autobrr version. Some people made thread like this because we had autodl not autobrr (turns out he was hired by direct competitor much later).

To be fair tho, Debian 10 is stable, and we are just moving Debian 11/12 -> That creates some Docker drama with Systemd, overlayfs etc. but simply have not had time to see why it works for some, and for some not.

If you care to open a ticket on which server you are, i check the PMSS version there. Or you can just check the MOTD as you login, it shows you the version running for you.

autobrr looks interesting I'll take a look at it. autodl-irssi is just what I have always used, didnt even know there was anything else.

as far as docker goes, works for me.

  • @PulsedMedia Oh one quick thing. I am guessing if I wanted to check out autobrr the best way to go about that is to run a container of it and bind it to localhost:high_random_port and use ssh tunneling to access it?

quite frankly i have no idea, never tried it myself. To me it was sold as "autodl 2.0", and it was used well before docker support already, so docker is not necessary.

    Found this tho: https://hub.docker.com/layers/ghostserverd/autobrr/latest/images/sha256-a92e2fcd18e03aa45bff38b2eadd53c6cb75a2ed830f3e533b1b0a7e8dc31071?context=explore

    and:

Let us know how it goes for you, maybe we add docs :)
