Netcup G12 rootserver underperforming?

hnhanxiiihnhanxiii Member
edited December 2025 in General

Hi everyone, yesterday I bought a RS G12 1000 Ultra on the Advent Calendar discount.

Today Netcup sent me the info for the server and. I logged in and run a benchmark script from: https://github.com/masonr/yet-another-bench-script. To my surprise, both the single core and multi core performance seem pretty underwhelming: https://browser.geekbench.com/v6/cpu/15512940

I don't know what I did wrong here. I checked on geekbench page for similar results with netcup and found people got much higher numbers with the same processor: https://browser.geekbench.com/v6/cpu/15508766. Does anyone know why? Do I need to "unlock" anything in the control panel?

For some context, I just logged in the server via ssh root@ip-that-netcup-provided and ran the test there with "curl -sL https://yabs.sh | bash":

For these "semi-VDS" where you don't really get your dedicated vCores but you can use however much you want I think Avoro by @dataforest generally holds a higher standard with similar pricing (a bit more expensive thought I believe, especially disk AFAIK)

  • yes, you can open a ticket. It's trash and they sell that as dedicated cores

I don't know. This is the first time I have a root server from netcup. From other tests people posted online, the single-core score should be around ~ 1700-2000, for example: https://www.vpsbenchmarks.com/yabs/netcup-6c-12gb-20251210-5434b2

  • @hnhanxiii strange.... because mine was flying...
    https://browser.geekbench.com/v6/cpu/15507189
Maybe your baremetal host was busy with other stuff. You should try another run.

Yes, I found it very strange. Did you buy the same RS G12 1000 Ultra?

  • For example, this is a vps 1000 g12 with 4 cores. And actually the performance of this one is not that good compared of some I had in the past

  • Mine 1.616 in single core. But since its Cloudlinux, so its about 1.800 in ubuntu/alma.

  • I bought that too and had much better results: https://browser.geekbench.com/v6/cpu/15494674

I'm guessing we were all running Yabs and your host node was bogged down.

  • My VPS nano has better disk speed and cpu score

I seriously think you need to contact support , or maybe just wait a little in case the host node is being hammered by all the benchmarkers

  • i currently only purchase domain offers from netcup that perform relatively stable with a gb6 value of 4677 points! (single domain)

  • This isn't normal, so create a ticket and ask them to fix the issue.

  • it's NOT physical core, it's like dedicated "thread", better than shared cores but not good as physical cores

  • Some updates: I ended up cancelling my contract with Netcup on that underperforming server to get a full refund (still within the first 14 days) and ordered a new one at Nuremberg. The performance now is much better with ~ 2100 single-core and ~ 11000 multi-core GB6 points.
Before this I have opened a ticket but honestly support from Netcup seems non-existent. I waited for 3-4 days and still no response. From this experience, one suggestion for anyone who would like to order from Netcup is to always check the performance first and just refund as soon as you don't find it suit your need. Also, you should not expect much of support, given the low price per performance they offered.

Weird I always had quick answers from netcup support. But it’s not the first time I’m reading that feedback

I get 1800 single core GB6 on my G11 RS's, glad I didn't upgrade to the G12 dog poo.... More cores on the G12 I'm sure they stuffed even more people on it...

Now i have old BlackFriday deal from Netcup
    AMD EPYC 7702P
    CPU cores : 8

    Total 106.72 MB/s (26.6k) 1.18 GB/s (18.4k)
Block Size 512k (IOPS) 1m (IOPS)
    ------ --- ---- ---- ----

    Total 3.07 GB/s (6.0k) 3.54 GB/s (3.4k)

    Multi Core | 3156

I think performance is down the hill other the years...

Is it worth to cancel this and order RS 4000 G12
    Or choose avoro, hetzner, ovh?

Netcup was good only for 2 months usage if you are lucky.
    Avoid Nuremberg location.

I do not know if Amsterdam was still good. But almost 8 months ago, the first time they launched it giving me a good performance, before I moved to Vienna

Vienna has good performance with sucks network delivery.
Right now all network failing with all the performance of their rootservers

10Euros ++ for Single Core Performance of 1700-1800
It's like having server 5-6 years ago

    And don't forget
They will delay the refund if there was server you cancelled

With this kind of a$$h0l3 works,
I will suggest everyone, saves energy rather than dealing any kind of emotional acts against them

Useless and no brain at all

  • Netcup is overrated. It used to turn mediocre earlier but seems like now situation is going worse.

  • Mine in Nuremberg is still the same as before.
