Well this is it, another year of Black Friday / Cyber Monday megathread flash sale event has officially come to a close. This wouldn't have been possible without all the amazing providers who trusted me and I want to take this chance to show my appreciation to each of you.

Before I go further, I want to give a huge thanks to the admins and mods @jbiloh @DP @angstrom @Jord for all the help in ensuring this thread followed our guidelines. I know there have been some disagreements on what content should be allowed here, but some things are necessary to ensure that our platform remains considerate and welcoming to everyone.

This year has been particularly tough for many providers, there has been a lot of uncertainty in the macroeconomy, and the AI boom has driven up hardware prices such as RAM, which has doubled its price in less than a year.

Despite these challenges, we have still seen providers who truly understood the assignment and delivered some of the best deals we have ever seen. This is a true testament to their generosity and love to this community.

As time has passed, there are only a few providers who have continuously supporting me since 2020, my very first BF Flash Sale event. I want to give a shout-out to @Cam @freerangecloud @gigahost @Lampard @naranjatech @SpartanHost @visualwebtechnologies for always being present at these events. Thanks for trusting me over the past 6 years.

Without further ado, here's a recap of some of the most memorable deals this year:

    • @Zappie - the MVP for this event. No one has ever offered IPv4 deals as low as this before (To put things into perspective, that's $200 opportunity costs lost every single month) with the intention to help people that does BGP/Networking as a hobby. They also offered 20 VPS in exotic locations such as South Africa, Chile and New Zealand for a mere $5.4/yr. Truly a legendary provider!
    • @djunior - despite being new to the megathread, they delivered high-performance VPS at an insane price, bringing the price nearly down to $1/GB RAM/yr. Their 16 vCPU Xeon Gold setup was the most impressive of all, with benchmarks that made everyone want one.
    • @DartNode @keoir - their unbeatable dedicated server deals are always a highlight. They offered some of the latest hardware (Ryzen 9950X) with 192GB RAM for less than $100/m. Despite the rise in hardware costs in 2025, they restocked the legendary $99/yr dedicated servers and not just 1 or 10 but more than 30 of them!
    • @VeloxMedia - thanks @itsTomHarper for hosting creative giveaways with puzzles and unique mechanisms, as well as offering very low-priced flash sales. Despite the incidents that happened, I want to thank you guys for keeping pricing low almost all year round to make idling VPS affordable for everyone.
    • @bingobangobongo - their frequent participation in the thread along with several surprises has allowed the real active members to acquire their great service at a fraction of the price, namely free double resources that's not listed anywhere.
    • @labze - known for cost-effective, high performance VPS and VDS at a low prices, they delivered some of the the highest performance VDS offers with generous quantity.
    • @gigahost - the most anticipated provider for their crazy flash sale on dedicated servers. Despite their busy schedule, they blew us away with Ryzen dedicated servers for under $15/m. They literally only have 2 comments in this entire megathread.
    • @alexhost - M1 Mac dedicated servers at an insanely low price of $13/m is also unheard of. A cheap exotic dedi in an exotic location Moldava is a great match by itself.
    • @DeluxHost - while not as active in the thread, they created several plans below or equal to $7/yr, including one of the most jaw-dropping deals of the entire event - a 1GB VPS for just $1/yr. You can't even buy a meal for $1.
    • @AlexBarakov - one of the more reliable hosts on LET, yet still managed to prepare some special deals for us and delivers VPS in relatively rare locations for less than $10/yr.
    • @avsisp - their insane VPS with a massive 1TB NVMe shocked many people, along with low-priced VPS in Albania for under $10/yr, an exotic location with very few presence here in the market
    • @MAXKO_Hosting - one of the most TOR exit friendly provider, offering unmetered VPS in exotic locations such as Hungary, Croatia and South Africa starting at a very low price of 14.8€/yr
    • @NDTN - their 69% off premium VPS deals made expensive locations such as Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Vietnam incredibly affordable, starting at just $7.75/yr.
    • @rarecloud - delivered several cheap 7€/yr VPS deals along with free first-year VPS in locations such as Japan and Romania, priotising member happiness over profit.
    • @DediRock - when the world thinks $7/yr is too low, DediRock Hooks It Up™ with several VPS under $7/yr with a very generous quantity of them, even released a storage VPS that's on the sweet pricing of $1/TB/m.
    • @naranjatech - periodically offered servers on their reliable hardware starting from just 12€/yr, making sure everyone stand a chance to get deals that they would like to.

    [SPECIAL FOR GREAT PROVIDERs]

After internal discussions, we agreed that 5 of the providers above are outstanding and they deserve more recognition. We will be extending their provider tag for 6 months completely free of charge and those providers are: @Zappie @djunior @DartNode @VeloxMedia and @bingobangobongo - congrats!

I would also like to thank the members who made this megathread more wonderful:

    • @emgh - thanks for hosting so many fun events like the drawing competition, and for collaborating with @JamDon2 to build an exclusive and well-constructed platform to make it all happen, I will admit I had fun drawing some interesting art too.
    • @beanman109 - thanks for always being my backup, helping to hype up the crowd and being a great negotiator with providers.
    • @JabJab @Saragoldfarb - thanks for the continuous support and for always around in this thread regardless of day or night, along with various costumes for the pink and green dino that makes me want to customise my dino as well.
    • @AlteredParadox @allthemtings @barbaros @plumberg - thanks for your continuous presence and support, you guys always bring the energy and make megathreads more complete
    • @admax @Blembim @mandala @Murv @nghialele - thanks for all the GIFs and memes, you guys made the thread more lively, all those kawaii characters from Touhou to Yuri makes me want to get one Fumo myself as well.

    I am sure I most likely missed someone, but from the top of my head I can think of @barbaros @barbarza @Decicus @default @doobydoe @HuiW @lukast__ @Neoon @nullnothere @oloke @ralf @Ramsterdam @Smigit @Zyra and so many more.

Of course, a massive thank you to all the providers who supported this event. Thank you for believing in me once again and taking the time to prepare special deals for us. This event would not have been the same without you all: (tag removed)

With that, the event is officially over, and I apologise for posting it rather late. I can't emphasize enough how much I appreciate all the providers and LET members who gave their support to make this event a success, it has been an incredibly fun and memorable Black Friday + Cyber Monday week.

Looking back on these past 6 years, it hasn't always been easy, but every time when I secretly revisit the comments from the past BF/CM megathread, it always brings a smile to my face. I am such fortunate to have all of you come together. Thank you once again, and looking forward to see you all again!

  • Thanks to @FAT32, mods, providers and everyone that kept the hype up and deals coming all at the same time!

This is my first BFCM at LET! This year, layoffs happened and I suddenly had a lot of time. Initial goal was to move my hobby projects to somewhere cheaper to keep myself afloat longer. Somehow it led me to LET.

I’ve come to realize being here is not only about chasing deals, but a learning experience as a whole. I’ve mostly relied on services that managed everything and I only have to click on deploy. Seeing everyone talk about their self-hosting experience opened a new world. Especially the importance of backups. And also, I’m in awe of how many idlers one could own.

I didn’t participate as much as I’d like this time round. Still, I woke up to LET and said goodnight to LET. Will definitely remember F5ing my way to try to grab a flash deal for a VPS the day before my wedding. Already looking forward to next year!

Sorry you had to go through it as well, definitely not fun. Took me quite some time to fully go from the mindset of "what did I do wrong" to "it was just an unlucky event and that's all."

It's a good time to ponder around the meaning of life, and trying the best not to get too many idlers than what budget allows. Wish you all the best on recovering.

Sorry for your compassion. Indeed it is not fun, but life goes on. Show must go on - as Queen band said in a song.

Took me quite some time to fully go from the mindset of "what did I do wrong" to "it was just an unlucky event and that's all."

I would say I am unlucky. I am unlucky in general; however, I was the first sperm from millions to reach the egg and get born.

Anyway, this problem we go through is not because of companies miscalculating stuff, nor because of our human mistakes as employees; it is more about greed of corporations and politicians at the top. Even this Black Friday event was marvellous in offers, yet we can see the providers struggle, and it's not their fault - we can literally feel it. This is a bigger game at play, one which us - the working class - can barely get our head around because we can't understand the intent.

It's a good time to ponder around the meaning of life, and trying the best not to get too many idlers than what budget allows. Wish you all the best on recovering.

Absolutely true. The meaning of life is about being.

Please enjoy your idlers and have fun. Idling server is not about waiting for something to happen or some project to pop into your mind. It is about your love for servers and for playing with them when you need them. Idling is about your passion for computing - regard this as your fun. Some people spend time on games, other watch movies or listen to music. We idle servers and then donate them to some non-profit project (because they idled too much).

Having laid off more than once now though, I have seen that it doesn’t matter what you do, if the company sees you as a burden on the bottom line, you gotta go. Even if the idea is to prop up quarterly results for a bonus by someone higher up. It’s what it is. So no point in beating myself over it, the gods of profit just didn’t like me at that point in time.

I am pretty happy now to work at a place which doesn’t go out of its way to make you feel like “family” and simply focuses on bonuses instead. I will take the money, thank you. That’s all our contract really is. Me creating you value and getting some scraps in return.

It's not the exact time for any event I'm mentioning below, but it's best to commemorate the first year anniversary of fumo² proliferation on LET before the thread is closed. What is "fumo"?

On December 4th, 2024, user @admax commented a gif featuring bouncing Reimu fumo.

    image

This gif is a snippet from a Touhou meme (earliest known instance) which was believed to originate from the trailblazer fumo content creator Yumemey [Reddit]. The original footage may have been lost to time, becoming a lost fumo media.

Per the words of veteran @default, the emerge of this plushie on the forum is entirely without precedent. Accordingly, this bouncing Reimu gif, and the word "fumo" were the first time "fumo" was used in the context of Touhou plush dolls.

10 days after the first appearance, I independently posted a second fumo image. Continuing from this point, plenty of fumo or anime/manga-related media was thrown around, organically permeated LET despite the absence of a leading user that year. The main players were just @admax and @Blembim, with support from @beanman109 and @FAT32. Within a year, the cohort of fumo enthusiasts grew extensively with more and more users showing interest.

The introduction of fumo fortunately did not cause any noticeable discomfort, but received a mostly positive reaction from the community. Enabled by @FAT32, an asset depicting fumo was even used to customise a thread of a provider. image Rather than taking LET by storm, fumo slowly became part of it through expressions of community members, notably all early adopters and @ebietsy, @oloke, @nekomikoreimu.

Fumo has always been more than a marketable merch or a meme to me, but LET nurtured it to be a lifestyle, and gave me a reason to come back. ᗜˬᗜ

So it turns out I was the fumo trigger. Later, @plumberg asked me what a fumo is, and I explained it, though I can’t remember which thread it was in.

In my view, a fumo represents our affection for certain anime or cartoon characters — hoping they could stay by our side and ease some of the hardships of reality. After all, real life isn’t as idealized as the 2D world, though many works do reflect real-life themes and can be commemorative, like Eva, Totoro, or Zootopia.
