Just to say that netcup's Advent calendar started yesterday (with the start of Advent). A different promotion every day until Christmas:

Same deals like every year and every sale?

Thank you sir angrystorm
That's me, always angry, like a storm!
Thank you neil armstrong
You mean a storm in a teacup?
Edit: maybe storm in netcup is more appropriate here?
https://www.netcup.com/en/deals/advent-calendar for English version
Any chance for the Netcup Piccolo in this sale?
There is no Haha button.
thank you for sharing
I want stable vps like netcup but cannot access all the api endpoints, what the use then. If only
It will probably be recycled deals from last time as always, maybe some really small surprise with a difference in price of a few cents or 1-2€ up/down.
More and more providers are doing advent calendar now.
promotion same same but promotional page is different 😁
I expect the standard netcup stuff, nothing crazy. Which is already good deal if you value the stability and reliability provided.
Hopefully they will release something new
only .de domain deals are attractive. rest are just same offers recycled.
100% storage or 50% RAM or both.
What's the deal for .de domains?
FWIW: I have been known as a netcup fan for a long time but I just cancelled all netcup services I had. Both for a good reason. I was a fan because their root servers, while not really VDS, are of very good quality and relatively cheap. I cancelled because * I wanted a 6 months billing period just like I had for almost a decade with my root server there. But they refused. * I wanted to take my old servers 2nd IP4 over to my new server. But they refused and demanded that I go through some bureaucracy hoola-hoop plus it would cost more. * I of course cancelled my old server as now I had a new (and better and more expensive) one. But they refused and demanded that I pay for the full half year anyway. So, a half-year billing period is fine when it serves their interest. At the same time though it is something they simply refuse when I want it for my new server. Result: I cancelled everything with them and not only took them off from my white list but put them on my black list.
Almost the same here. Wanted to prepay the monthly vps by a year but they also declined only monthly option, very disappointing.
Why did you want to prepay?
If anyone happens to get an RS 500, VPS Piko, and RS Piccolo ARMore during this event, I’ll buy it off you. Trying my luck if they show up, but I would appreciate any help.
I understand your perspective, but I wonder -- just to be fair -- how flexible other big providers such as Hetzner, DO, etc. are in these respects
I guess that my attitude is that if netcup offer special deals and I decide to purchase a special deal from them, then I simply play by their rules/conditions (contract, payment terms, etc.). I've never tried to ask them to change something about a contract that I had with them. If I felt strongly enough about wanting to change something, then I would simply purchase another (typically better) special deal from them and migrate. I just see it as a kind of game where they offer special deals on a regular basis and I sometimes purchase a special deal from them, accepting their rules/conditions
If I had regularly priced services from netcup and were a long-term customer, then I might be inclined to expect a bit more flexibility from them, but although I'm a long-term customer, every service that I've ever purchased from them has been a special deal
idk man i'll let @jsg answer that, he's the brain behind the netcup copypasta
Good luck gragbbing one before MJJs lol. There's a dedicated Telegram group for that.
I largely share your attitude - but kindly note what @Rubben quoted from my user page (it seems to be a verbatim quote/copy-paste). I did not try to change something to something different. All I wanted was to have the same I've had for years and I'd continue to have (with my "old" server). All that had changed was a new (and more expensive) server and what I wanted was to continue making payments twice a year only instead of monthly (a) just as I had done for years, and (b) because I'm a developer and not an accountant (~ don't enjoy and don't want to be bothered by monthly payments). And btw (c) the vast majority of providers like longer term (pre-) payments.
Also, while ignorantly declining semi-annual payments for the new server they did insist on (a final) semi-annual payment for the "old" server.
TL;DR The netcup thing is not about wanting special conditions, it's about their utter ignorance and disrespect of customers, even long-term ones.
Hence: stay way from netcup!
Just to say that I didn't realize that @Rubben was quoting you
@Rubben , if you quote someone, you should make it clear that you're quoting someone! This wasn't at all clear from your first comment, and your second comment didn't clarify this
@jsg , I understand why you found netcup inflexible with respect to the payment schedule, and if this was a sufficient reason for you to leave netcup (forever?), then it's hard to argue about this (because this is how you experienced the situation)
By the way, as you may know, it's possible to set up an automatic payment by credit card or by SEPA transfer at netcup. In this way, one can avoid having to deal with monthly payments manually. (But I imagine that you didn't want to do this)
(a) that's correct, I don't like automatic withdrawals nor do I like "automatic payments" for things other than to the land lord and suchlike.
(b) Also I didn't even know about that option (well, I'm clueless with that kind of stuff)
(c) If netcup had suggested those options to me I might even have considered it, but they didn't; instead they fought teeth and nails for not doing what at the same time they demanded for my old server.
All in all I came to the conclusion to stay away from netcup although, granted, they offer attractive products at attractive prices - but their bureaucracy and fighting and/or willy nilly changing their own rules IMO makes it a no-go. Also, other providers offer very attractive products as well. My @Hybula VPS for example, easily beats my (former, new) netcup VDS at a somewhat lower price and so too does my @HostDZire VPS.
(Btw, I still occasionally giggle when reading you sig *g Well done, kudos!)
The netcup ticket agent really should have suggested the possibility of setting up automatic payments!
In any case, as I tried to say above, my view about netcup products has always been that for netcup, the exact payment schedule (monthly or yearly or ...) is an essential feature of the product (just like the amount of RAM, the disk size, etc.), and so I wouldn't ask them to modify this
But -- yes -- one can also view this as a kind of needless inflexibility on their part
What I find scary is that that book (Running Linux, 2e, 1996), which was my second book on Linux, is now nearly 30 years old!
Quite a beast for today, but a bit too expensive for my blood.
RS 2000 G12 Ultra
AMD EPYC™ 9645
10 vCore (dedicated, instead of 8)
24 GB DDR5 ECC RAM (instead of 16 GB)
1 TB NVMe (instead of 512 GB)
€24.38 (20% VAT for me) in NUR, VIE and Manassas
Their ultra lineup are bad news. Dont touch it.
If you calculate cost ratio wrt their monthly promo, normal RS 3000 or RS 2000 is more economically and price to spec wise.
