It's time to shut down LowEndTalk. 🛑

For years this community been idling an equivalent of OpenAI, Antropic, and Gemini computing power combined.

Time to put it to use. All those machines could be gathering personal data, automating mass surveillance, generating "Hello, world!" code snippets, rendering naked elvish queens and little pony dickpics, delivering asbestos-free muffin recipes to housewives.

Time to put that power into the hands of those who will adapt it to the needs of the real people, not ephemeral "chicken collectors" and push-up directors.

We hereby call on the following users to cancel all their hundreds of idle VPS:
    @zGato @gbzret4d @Decicus @sh97 @FAT32

Time to get some more idlers to feel better until prices reaches highs i cant afford anymore

So far I got price increases for:

    • Selectel
    • Linveo
    • Serv-Tech
    • IHC / McHost (same company but different brands)
    • Timeweb

And this is just from December...

They said why they increase the price?

We're writing to inform you of an upcoming price adjustment for our
VPS services, effective January 1, 2026.

WHAT'S CHANGING: All VPS packages will increase by 10%. For example,
our $5.00/month plan will become $5.50/month.

WHY THIS CHANGE IS NECESSARY: Like many in the hosting industry, we've
experienced significant cost increases throughout 2025, with
additional increases expected in 2026. Specifically, we're facing:

            * Substantial datacenter power cost increases that have already
impacted us in 2025, with further increases scheduled for 2026
            * Dramatically higher RAM costs due to supply constraints driven by
    AI industry demand

We've absorbed these costs as long as possible, but a modest price
adjustment is now necessary to maintain the quality and reliability
    you expect from our services.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO: Nothing. Your service will continue
uninterrupted, and the new pricing will automatically apply to
invoices generated on or after January 1, 2026.

We remain committed to providing you with excellent performance,
reliable infrastructure, and responsive support. Thank you for your
    continued business and understanding.

If you have any questions about this change, please don't hesitate to
reach out to our support team.

    Best regards,

Pathetic :) . Small business able to survive on existing hardware, as inventory changes in small scale is rare. For titans such as amazon, google etc. price increase is significant blow as they can’t slowdown. Small business can and should be prepared for events like this.

  • The brand will most likely be sold to China, where local Chinese will produce their hardware under this name.

If you decide to give up something, then sell it to China. They have a lot of money to buy everything.

  • Waiting for sellout. Hope SSDs getting cheap.

    Hi,

thats the reason why we did not participate in BF this year and why some others did not too while yet other did but as it seems not with $_THIS great deals like we saw it in the past years.

And no worry, crucial is just the start. Either this "AI bubble" will finally pop as people will realize that LLM's wont make it to become a real general AI and remain just repeating bots
OR things will get much more worst for all hardware that requires chips. RAM and SSD are starting now and consumer focused brands will die / change to enterprise as they pay the real money. GPU will follow hard, especially since AMD stopped to develop further consumer GPU hardware. Samsung already announced the stop of production of DDR4 RAM this year ( the super cool fancy "AI" alias LLM-Bots datacenters dont want this old/slow stuff ) triggered the first wave of RAM price increases. And others will follow. They are all stock market companies and they wont use their limited production capacities for poor consumers if there are some nice rich hyper scalers around the corner for who money does ( currently ) not matter as investors give them a s**** load of risk capital to play around.

So IF you want this to stop, the best you can do is using all your idle machines to send non stop complex queries to all this nice LLM's so they burn even faster through this risk capital so that this all will collaps faster :-) ;P

OR if you dont want this to stop, then stop using AI at all and wait until the whole market ( i wonder what hetzner & Co. will actually do after some months of this pricings, their stock hardware cant last for ever ) will go up and you can sell your idler's for big money $_$ :D
