    My gut feeling is that guy will not commit to his bids. Hopefully I'm wrong :/

    Your gut was correct, we ended up banning that user. They were a new user, another reason why we have this for members only. Hope this answers the folks who were very upset that we have it set up this way—not because we want to limit people from bidding in the auction or joining, but because they ruin it for everyone.

    You should require a minimal account balance (let's say $25) - and have them forfait that amount if they don't honor their win.
