There's a worrying use of the past tense in that comment that I don't for one minute believe.

Don't be split. Think from the provider side, you are FOMOing and buying things, which you won't use or really need, which means it will idle. Provider now can sell the idle resources to someone else and earn more money on it.

On the other hand, if you transfer it to someone else, the server might not be idle anymore, which means provider might not oversell the resources.

As this is against provider's business, they won't let you transfer the service.

All true, but for the deadpool deals they are (hopefully) coming from some marketing budget.
And there is more marketing to be had by someone posting every other thread about his insane FROM THE GRAVE deal than by someone who will not renew his fomo deal

Might depend on the deal etc., I think there is truth in both arguments

I'm not arguing for transfer free for all btw.
More for transfer fees and maybe time restrictions

Consider the fact that transferring services is a time consuming process. Asking you to pay for transfer fee, a ticket will be created, both parties need to confirm transfer the services and then hosting staff will spend time to take this.

Considering those servers are loss leaders and most companies are only 1 or 2 person staff, it might not work to allow transfers. Also once it's allowed, it will be like opening dam walls, and others will flood in with same request.

Instead of dealing with transfers, they can sell more servers at their new thread.

Ordered a promo server from one of the providers here.
They changed their TOS afterwards and now promo deals are non-transferable.

I feel like I never accepted the new TOS and so the old one should be followed?
Ticket was answered with a different opinion :D

(looking for advice here, will not name the provider, not looking for drama)
(not trying to profit either, server is idling, wanted to transfer without any profit etc.)

Honest opinion - if you bought it with the intention of reselling it, then tough. As a scalper, you got what you deserve. If you bought it and discovered that performance isn't adequate for some reason, then discuss that with the provider and if you're nice about it, they might offer a refund.

But I don't really have any sympathy for people who grab every limited deal, stopping others from getting the chance to buy one, when they didn't even want it in the first place.

Was hoping my million of disclaimers would prevent this scalping talk

someone asked in this thread for this specific deal and I thought "oh I have that one and barely use it"
had it for a few month, will not sell for profit, not scalping, not bought "with intention to resell"
might have bought it with a little fomo, sure
not looking for a refund either, will just let it go if i dont find a use later on. But in my mind it would be a lot better to give it to another LET member who needs it and wasn't online in those few seconds back then.

I'm just a little weirded out by the provider beeing so strict on no transfers when that rule wasn't in place back then. no big deal (for me) either way, but sucks for the member who was looking for that specific server

Again, for what it's worth, you didn't mention the "a few months" and you're asking in the BF thread, so I assumed this was something from this weekend.

In which case I agree with @barbaros:

    @barbaros said:
Imagine you bought a service and a month later they introduced new Fair Usage limits (or changed the current ones causing you disadvantage), or the provider says instead of annually paying for that product now you have to pay biannually. That wasn't the conditions you agreed when buying that product.

So either those new rules shouldn't apply to that specific product, or you should be offered to break contract and get money back for the remaining period.

As consumer laws are generally in favour of the customer.

Unless the T&Cs explicitly say they can change them at will and they will apply, then they shouldn't. But unless you can prove what the T&Cs were at the time of purchase (maybe via archive.org), good luck arguing that. Also, even if the T&Cs can be changed, a court might decide it's unfair and side with the customer.

Most companies in the real world solve this by announcing changes to T&C and giving the customer a month to cancel their service for pro-rata refund if they disagree, and if they don't do so within a month are deemed to have accepted the new terms.

For a hosting company though, it's probably not worth the hassle of fighting them for the money if it's a small amount, so they can get away with acting more dickishly knowing you won't be able to do anything about it. I guess that's why people love to make shaming posts.

    Isn't this for you?

FAT32 IQ equals 250 minus number of idlers.
The more idlers he gets, the stupider he gets.

This has nothing to do with lack of sleep.
