  • BLACK FRIDAY MOARRR

  • Okey, can someone from GC actually explain why installing Linux (or any other OS it seems) on Windows VPS is bad?
Housekeeping licenses and % to M$? But this makes no sense for me - if user already paid premium let him overpay for Linux if he decides?

  • @oloke said: btw @NHNHNH000 how are you so fast???

    sounds like rigged

Our policy in general prohibits installing a different OS from that one specified by its category. Windows remains with Windows, Linux remains with Linux.

I did find that but why prohibited both ways?
I understand Installing Windows on Linux VPS can cause license issue but the other way around as well?
Does Microsoft ban Linux VM running on a Windows VPS?
They should rebrand themselves as Micromanaging

I don't want to be this kind of guy (bullshit, I want!), but I wouldn't call it 2nd last rank... The other guy didn't select anything, never set a name and just idle :D

We observe that customers running Linux on a Windows OS often abuse the bandwidth, given that we only utilize a soft limit.

As always, the same reason: dicks random people is why we can't have nice things.

// Welp, I am not going to buy GC Windows VPS ever then because I like choices and uhmm Windows is a specific thing.

Is running a VM on top on Windows allowed? What about WSL?

Great thank you. Now I can slowly topup the credits monthly so that I can renew in peace in 3 years time 🤣

  • @sliix said: Hey just a quick question to GreenCloud team; does credits expire?

it does not and then you end like me with $6.89 in credit begging for a deal for like last 5 events :-D

Don't top up, just set it aside, don't spent, wait for +20-30% top up bonus and then (ab)use it. :-)

Ya I was thinking about that too since just last birthday celebration that did have the topup bonus promo. I guess I’ll do both ways. Topup a little bit monthly, and also grab the topup bonus offer when it’s available.

Why is it a bad thing? If they run out of bandwidth, they need to buy a new quota?

  • @ninh said:

    soft limit.
It does not suspend, it does not limit - it only makes support approach client to talk about things - and I assume most people won't buy new quota and just ignore/play dead until next month or chargeback/cancel.

I guess Windows has much higher cost(power.cpu.ram) than Linux for idling
