I won a cpanel reseller though which is so awesome, thanks @dustinc

Yup. It's cool. I might just start a shared hosting website for my friends

    that's so cool <3

Infact, many of us who won these over the years have been running local shared hosting for their inner circle. It's good income if you are able to scale.

I have a lot of reseller hosting idle from years back. Dunno why I started collecting shared hosting idlers. Set up a small hosting gig for small local companies.

    Not too bad.

Ever thought of scaling up, go GLOBALLLLL?

Yes actually. Already have the infrastructure running. Not enough servers to go global though. Now NL servers wouldn't be an issue but there's so much competition. And I like things owned, doing most RM ourselves.

Oh that's cool. I am gonna start a reseller for friends and family next year as well

Back in the day, I hosted steaming servers from home for friends and family. Had a couple of machines hooked up in the basement :)

It's been a dream of mine as well, though I don't know the first thing about them. Recently when Palworld went viral, I looked into starting a server for it. But, the requirement of GPU made me back down

I had a shared hosting service back in 2019, a whmcs website with two 2GB servers from hetzner that had WHM/CPanel + Litespeed + CloudLinux setup with a telegram bot to get notifications/manage your account

Your conversation has made me think maybe I should start over but with my own cms system that is far more superior than whmcs

Always worth to try. Hosting business is harsh but you know, why not. Worst thing could happen is you gotta fold. There's no shame in that if you handle that in a respectful manner.

I did in-fact fold after 7-8 months of operation, because my margins were too low, it was a 1 man operation and I was getting too busy with high school, I migrated all of my users to a friend's hosting and didn't try again in years

but now that i'm older, with more experience, I think it's good to revisit the market

Nice. Make sure you got support handled. Good support goes a long ways.

I'm still with a provider (for some services )who has these occasional hiccups, small business but support is always prem and friendly so I'm staying.

exactly, also having multiple ways of communication for support is really important

I just registered the domain and I'll start with the racknerd's free reseller giveaway, it'll be a good starter for a year until I can expand more on it

Megathread is only reaching half-mil views

    we win

hehe, definitely way more deals in the megathread so there's more eyes there but those deals aren't with the company we all love!
Though racknerd does have flash sales appear in the megathread from time to time!

    True
BTW, are you sure ther are RackNerd flash sales on the megathread?

    Yes.

    First time this year, right?

Not 100% sure. No way in hell I've ever been able to read all posts there. It's insanity.

If you read too much you'll miss the deals ;)

True. I just have a vague memory of not seeing any RackNerd deals on the megathread last year.

I don't know who I'm ordering from most of the time :)

Lol! You got that much to spare?

Yes and no... We budget in money for digital services each year. Whatever is not spent... Can be spent as its a write-off anyway. With the year closing in to the end... There's usually some budget left :)

Oh, ok. Frankly, what percentage of your digital assets do you think is idling right now?

That's be cool. I only have partial information but would I be right in assuming WHMCS has multiple vulnerabilities? I have been seeing information on leakages and such associated with WHMCS.

Yes, I dont like having to go find a good server the moment I need something. Scalable cloud is the answer ofcourse but the big guys are pretty expensive. Especially when you want stuff on separate ips and so on.

    Probably overdoing it though :)

Yah, might be overdoing, but, I see your valid point. Scalability is definitely a drawback with most hosts and the ones that support it kinda aren't reliable with their pricing.

    Hey dude. How's it going?

  • The 1 GB KVM VPS might be something, still comparing BF offers

  • Since dedicated servers are custom built manually, any chance we have the option to configure RAM and storage on the bare metal? Need little more ram and faster storage without paying for extra CPU.

The dedirock one is also nice if you're after a small plate chicken. Not much difference overall I think.
