I really don't understand why Americans would buy this cheap hosting together with Chinese poor people. Isn't it said that working at McDonald's for a day can easily earn hundreds of dollars? Why still care about this few dollars discount?

Right why pay less when you can pay more!

Time cost, you see. Vietnamese folks opt for low-spec servers because local wages are pretty low. But what's the point for folks in developed countries to spend time buying this?

There is so many things wrong with this statement I'm not even going to bother

If it's just for fun, grabbing a bargain is totally reasonable. But from a time-cost perspective, it's not money-saving. I don't know if I'm understanding this correctly.

ask generative ai next time, we americans won't waste time answering such questions

I understand your confusion. It's not really about the money for many of us. Think of it more like a hobby, like collecting digital figurines 赛博手办 . Some people enjoy tinkering with servers and websites as a way to learn new skills and explore the internet.

Also, for some, it's a practical way to bypass the Great Firewall of China . Having a personal server can allow them to access information and resources that are otherwise blocked. The cost is a secondary consideration compared to these benefits.

    I think so

I don't need GPT's rational reply. I need an irrational reply from a real person. Luckily, I got both.

Weebs aren't known to be the sharpest tool in the shed but I'll still try to give a genuine answer.

Sure, someone working at a McDonald's in the US is probably making more money in USD than in some Asian countries but at the same time the living costs in the US are much much higher.

Even some people in the US may not be able to afford other stuff after paying for their living expenses.

What I wanna say is, cheap hosting deals can help save a week's worth of meals for some regions, but for developed countries, it only means half a meal saved. From a high-cost living perspective, even trying to save half a meal is just ridiculous.

why vps websites designed that bad

it's a turn off but also it's a fresh breath of air compared to all the whmcs copy-cats

Could be too that they have to run on small margins to hire a web developer - would be too expensive. I'm thinking though that if it's the vps you're there for, then just make sure that's good

We are not a small hosting provider. As a RIPE and AFRINIC LIR, we own more than 11k IPv4 addresses and multiple IPv6 ranges (/28 and /29). Our entire platform is built on a custom developed system tailored for our infrastructure.

We are aware that the website needs a refresh and that part is planned, but most of our resources are currently focused on several large ongoing projects.

    Maxko: 13.8€/yr 4GB Unmetered VPS in HR/BG/HU/ZA/NL

    • 4 vCPU
    • 4GB RAM
    • 50GB NVMe
    • Unmetered
    • 1 IPv4 + IPv6
    • Location: Croatia / Bulgaria / Hungary / South Africa / Netherlands
    • Quantity: 5 + 5 + 20
    • Coupon code

      • LET90 (90%)
      • LET75 (75%)
      • LET50 (50%)
    • Start from 13.8€/yr

Something cool about some of our locations that usually does not get much attention:

    • Bulgaria supports IPHM, it is very rare nowadays. Some people know exactly what that means, others will eventually learn.
    • Netherlands has 3 Tbps DDoS protection enabled for every VPS. Today we performed a test and the system filtered a 250 Gbps UDP attack without major issues. The protection is active on all VPS instances.

Maybe if you're struggling to find money for food, buying servers isn't what you should be spending your money on.

The point is - life is not just about making money / profit etc, which I only realised a little bit later (I am still young so I guess that's a plus?). This isn't an easy concept because Asian are born with the mindset that "If this thing doesn't bring you money, you shouldn't be doing it".

It isn't "meaningless" if at all because at the end of the day, you should be enjoying your life. If hoarding VPS or toying with all those idlers can bring you joy and happiness, why not? You only live once, make it counts.
