Eyy sinterklaas! I love the chocolate kruidnoten!!!!
nah its just like santa basically. it's a very old national thing, somewhat related to religion but...
Why, why Turkey named Turkey?
Sinterklaas is the Dutch version of Saint Nicholas and is the figure known in English-speaking countries as Santa Claus, though the traditions differ in some ways. He is a legendary figure based on a 4th-century bishop who is the patron saint of children, and his holiday is celebrated on December 5th and 6th in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Historical origin: The figure is based on Saint Nicholas, a historical bishop of Myra who was known for his generosity. The holiday evolved from commemorations of his death on December 6th, with the modern celebration taking place on the eve of his name day, December 5th.
Arrival: Sinterklaas is said to travel from Madrid, Spain, by steamboat, arriving in the Netherlands and Belgium in mid-November for his annual celebration.
Helpers: He is assisted by a large number of helpers called "Pieten," who are traditionally depicted as leaving candy and gifts for children, often through chimneys.
Gifts: Children leave out their shoes to receive small gifts and candy, and the main gift-giving event, called "Pakjesavond," takes place on the evening of December 5th.
English connection: The name "Santa Claus" is a corruption of the Dutch "Sinterklaas," and while there are many similarities, the figure of Santa Claus is a blend of Dutch and other European traditions.

it's another thing.. technically they called it Thanksgiving because during pioneer days indigenous people (Original Americans = Indians) here in America saw poop pioneers dying from hunger and brought some local amazing fat turkeys to help out. Pioneers were really thankful that cold winter, but come summer - they went out and killed all the Indians.. And so now all that is more like Turkey day...
