Back in the late 90's early 2000's I also dual-booted Red Hat, and later Suse linux. Then for awhile I got away from it, and then about 4 years ago, I got a 120gb ssd and installed Debian on it, to dual-boot again, and began using it more and more.
Well, I could upgrade to windows 10, but it wouldn't activate using the windows 7 license anymore, like it used to. I think they shut that down.
Oh, yah, they might have. They have been saying that they will soon shut down free win7/8 to 10 upgrades soon. But, didn't actually go ahead with it. But, I guess, they finally did that.
I'm using old hardware, anyway, an i7 2600k. I used the rufus installer to bypass the windows 11 requirements. Compared to linux on the same hardware, it's kind of amazing how much slower windows was. Linux is super fast, even with that older cpu.
I recently upgraded the ddr3 ram from 8 GB to 16 GB, though honestly, it seems pretty much the same to me. Right now I've got 3.5 GB ram used. I suppose it will help if I ever want to run a virtual machine, though.
Maybe try Tiny10 or even https://atlasos.net/ that @DeadlyChemist recommended yesterday.
