Woah! Good morning everyone! We are only 13 pages away from 300!!

    Welcome, g'morning!

So, I just scrolled through the pages. Did I miss any giveaways?

nope, didn't miss anything except a little chatting

What was the discussion topic yesterday? ANything interesting I would regret missing?

I don't think so (?) except I did start to work on making a custom page using TrK's data. Graphs aren't important yet but maybe you'd like the stats like

This is cool. I had a stupid idea looking at all the new stats pages - comment forecast (might be fun). Just a column called comment forecast which would calculate the total number of expected comments from a member on Dec 22, based on their current posting rate. If it goes down, their forecast goes down, while it'd go up in the other case. I believe this should be doable to a good extent with the same backend language and might not need AI.

well, I'm using TrK's api/json thing and there's no details one when comments were posted, basically just a count per page. It's fine, I more so just care about a graph based on totals and some other details (like in that screenshot I just shared)

Oh yah, just an idea that I had. I know it's going to be tough to implement. But, maybe for next year, I could do something like that, just for fun  It would serve no other purpose though, as the numbers from what I know would be far off from what it forecasts.

I mean, I'd assume if you were actually scraping post times and stuff (basically all the things), I bet one could make predictions

Yah, but, would timings per post be actually necessary. I was thinking per page basis. Look at the timings of the first and the last comment per page and based on that time duration calculate the number of comments per user posted. Based on that, you could extrapolate the forecast.
I have no idea if that'll work. My brain has the habit of coming out with the most out-of-pocket ideas and then when I start implementing them, I am made aware of the 100s of issues with the plan.

That could probably work but I'm also thinking of "this person seems to typically post between these times" so you can predict a little better but I'dunno, I don't really know how I would predict but I'd expect the more data/details you have, the better it would be

Yah, that too feels like something you can incorporate for a better forecast. On second thought, your initial idea of having the time of each comment sounds like a much better idea now. Moreover, it won't be that difficult to just save the times into a database.

Yeah, I would think "user, post time" would be needed for the forecast though I think it would be cool to also have "word count" and "total characters" for each message too. Though that would depend on how the words are counted, like if it's just a space, "THIS-IS-MORE-THAN-ONE-WORD!" would be only counted as 1. Who knows, maybe I might actually start thinking about writing something that will scrape a thread and start coding it instead. Though coding isn't my day job, I just know some/understand concepts

I wouldn't even have the "trash" stuff I already have if it wasn't for TrK providing the data in a json format!

Only 2 years ago did I realise json was a much better format to parse and evaluate. For the longest time, I had been using separators to classify data.

hehe, basically csv? I mean it works but yeah, json is nice. xml is ok, guess it really depends on the data and what you want with it.

Lol, no. I was used to saving data in a variable as plain text with separators.

Oh, yuck... thats bad just for processing, but also for anyone in the future that may need to work on the code or process those data files XD

JSON is universally supported by literally anything that has to do with anything. with built-in functions for all kinds of processing, turning into arrays, searching, etc.

i remember last time i separated data was back when saving it in text files.. even PASCAL in the 90s could save into "file of var_type" and var_type could be as custom as you'd like.. but as an exercise for school, maybe.. to make data readable and editable via text file, - would use separators.. TEXT MODE PROGRAMMING =) well, why am i yelling it, pretty much all we do in linux is that... but that was MS DOS..

Yah, but, being a part-time dev who wasn't really into something a lot, I really didn't know JSON-based evaluation would change my life and make it so simple. I wish I had known that earlier. The funny thing is I only realised it's potential when Chatgpt asked me if I would prefer the output in JSON format.
