Website hosting/VPS hosting/Cloud hosting/ Running applications which you need to be on 24/7 etc etc
Running an application that needs a reliable fast network connection. Dedicated to get isolation, either because you're holding client or transaction data or because you want to reduce unplanned reboots.
The same as a virtual Server.

Well if you are personally hosting a server, it's considered a dedicated server

After the drama on LET the past couple days, I think most people would get this reference.

I use dedicated for production testing applications without having to not worry about sharing resources or setting off resource limits emails
Something you need dedicated resources for - video encoding, high-bandwidth applications, higher-reliability shared hosting.
Or just for something you need gobs of resources for - cheap 500GB/1TB servers are plentiful compared to 500GB/1TB of VPS storage.

Porn, of course; what else?
But for a few VPS are not enough like I run resource hungry game servers.
