  • I would probably not want to selfhost passwords. Too valuable to lose. Of couse, i could make (encrypted) backups, both hot (storageboxes) and cold (disks at family), but that's also a lot of work and maintenance. So i'd rather just pay for a service than do all of it and entrust it's secure and safe.

    Does anyone here use Vaultwarden?

I just started using it in the past month. I've been using KeePass for over a decade, but I wanted to have multiple databases with sharing and with account recovery features for family. So I set up vaultwarden in proxmox and migrated everything over.

i don't know, i alsways thought google password storage same as samsung additional for mobiles is good enough.. why do people not trust big name password storage game? it is so easy to use and it's across all your logged in devices..

You using Google's password manager fr?

yep. you not? isn't it simple and straightforward? i have it "locked" for biometrics on mobile or at least a main windows unlock code on PC, but then again, PC is at home and my phone that has access to passwords - i keep it home too, already mentioned, it just has all the info and passwords and crypto and google pay with credit cards - galaxy S22, so i just bougth a better phone this summer (galaxy S25 edge, amazing machine, mostly bought it because it's SUPER THIN) and copied a few apps that i don't have any credit cards in them, like for Groupon and some others i use Google pay so no money can be taken, so i installed it to new phone for the groupons on the road, then ticketmaster and such, all without any way to get to my money, but same accounts allow to use the stuff on both phones. UFC fightpass app to watch stuff, couple of points accounts such as my groceries with digital coupons and Cabbage club for my MJ purchases (in store only so again no moeny involved). basically my new phone is useless if someone takes it and forces me to unlock it for them.. and that is a problem here in chicago, or at least was like half a year ago, reports of people being stopped by multiple vehicles at like 5-6am and forced under threat of gun violence to unlock their phones, quick run thru their apps and here you sit there sending crypto or your account money via some cash app to the fuckers that stopped you on your way to work or something..

my neighbor even had such shit happen to him in front of the house, and others too.. i live next to downtown but where south side begins, so it's quite dangerous, but nothing stops them bad guys, they go deep to supposedly safe neighborhoods and get you there, cause you think you safe.. no.. i mean, Chicago is not dangerous, same like most cities, but sometimes people here come up with methods of parting you from your money which then spread over the country like wildfires in California..

I do selfhost some things, like Immich on a vps, but I still have to setup some replication/backups for that to a hostbrr storagebox.

Yes, we can. If we put our minds to it.

  • Maybe I'll switch to Backblaze B2 or iDrive E2 and use JuiceFS. Also seems like a cool option for my immich instance.

Yep! While I like selfhosting, i'd also want to stay on a low budget while not losing any data. Of course, it's still not a good idea to put all my eggs in one basket, but those big companies most likely have WAY better backups/redundancy/replication than me!

Yah, but, isn't hedging the better option than having all your eggs in a basket? Or, maybe like contingency plan if your primary cheats on you?
