Yes I did, but you did not read my reply fully, did you?

Now, read it again, and pay special atention to it's last word (hint: it's the second one as there are only two words on that reply.) Spoiler alert: the word is "Somewhere"

See? I was not sure where this PEBKAC occurred, now I am almost sure.

You said like 4 times now. In general, if someone didn't put something somewhere themselves, it's expected for them to say they don't know how it got there. So if you don't know how it got there and provider didn't, telling you to delete it is the correct response. This is fine, fucking move on.

There's additional troubleshooting you can do like report the key to them, the modification date, access logs, etc. If a newly created account doesn't reproduce the issue, of course they need access to the only known sample showing the issue.

    This is all common sense.

I'm just going to put here their replies to my ticket from last year when trying their service:

"We do allow you to run commands, ls, cp, mv, etc. all work fine from all users. SCP is also enabled, the command you posted should work fine as its standard SCP form. If it does not work we will need to reset your password to test on your user."

Upon my question if there's some examples on how to run commands in their environment:

"We're not creating a tutorial for you, no. This is a Shell, you have basic linux commands, mv, cp, etc. SSH, rSync, SCP, FTP. You can use remote tools like the ones I just mentioned to copy files into it, as well using those same tools to copy out. Again, its a Shell, its a linux shell, if you don't know how to use linux shell google how to use one, we do not teach you how to use Linux. Its linux.

If there is a command you want but its not giving you access to that command tell us and we add it for you. This is a jailed shell, NOT a VPS. You have access to commands we install for you.

No, we are not creating a tutorial for you. You do NOT need to know how your storage is mounted, again this is NOT a VPS. Your home directory is your mounted space you purchased. Use it like you would any other shell, its very simple.

That screenshot you sent me is not an error, its fine. If you don't like it I can refund you and you can move on."

Upon me insisting that it still doesn't work (despite them admitting scp command I tried should just work):

"That's because you are already inside your home, its chrooted!! That's what Jailing does. I already told you once, if you want us to figure out why SCP is not working we need to reset your password to test it ourselves, SCP works on this server, a customer signed up yesterday and used it perfectly fine, so it works. You never said, yeah, reset password, please try.

At this point this is not worth $2 a month, I will refund you now and you can find another provider you like better. Thanks and have a great rest of your week!"

So I had a similar issue with the service, and got the same approach ("provide password so we can test") and attitude from the owner. Needless to say I also would never order service from them again

No but you don't get it, they did nothing wrong because, um, uh, hmm, because I said so, even though I have never used their service and I just have a hobby of complaining about everyone else's complaints.

Thanks for sharing. I had stopped replied here because clearly some of the people who commented are fans of the company somehow, otherwise I can't explain their comments.

Hey mate, you screw up, just admit it and move on. Nobody's care. It's like if you buy a car, when you don't know how to drive and scream on the square, the car is shit do not buy it, because it can't move. The problem in someone between the steering wheel and the sit. Just let it go and forget. Sometimes happens.

PS You could ask admins to close the topic to stop it.

  • You can't really expect all low end providers here to be Hetzner... If you find their skill, professionalism, or infra does not meet your standard, just move on. Not saying you are wrong, but otherwise you will have a pretty tough time here imo.

Agree. But Hetzner is THE standard, and if said LET providers' service differs from Hetzner - we expect them to provide a few examples / use cases of how a new customer would use their service. Not a Linux tutorial, mind you...
