I've been playing minecraft for years, same with modded. And there are tools to make it way easier nowadays.
I use this ( https://docker-minecraft-server.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ ) to run my server.
I get my mods from Modrinth. So I just select the modloader + version in the filter thingy.
Then I choose the mods I want to play. And then I just put the project slug (the last part of the url) in my docker-compose file and it will automatically download it and its dependencies.
I also use Modrinth as my minecraft launcher.
It could be a good idea to try to be on a better network during GAs. I asked many guys who win the flash deals during the Chef's appearance. MOst of them have 100+Mbps connections.
