Anyone using SoundCloud for their music? (Instead of spotify)

You mean for hosting or listening?

    Listening :)

Never liked Spotify. I just use YouTube with ublock and sometimes when on phone, Amazon Music. I think Soundcloud is mainly for indie artists. Correct me if I am wrong.

I haven't used spotify ins a while too. Don't like it. Soundcloud is pretty nice. Haven't used YT Music before. Do they allow to continue listening to music if you "close" the app?
(With close i mean either by turning off the phone or by opening another app)

I am using SoundCloud(for bot) and YouTube Music with an alternative front end like Metrolist on Android, never been happier.

I use Brave for YouTube. The phone can be closed, I can surf another app, I can suft on LET while YT is running in background in a Brave browser tab.

Just when I open Facebook it stops. It should be an interference... Something that Meta don't want to let me do it.

    Otherwise, Brave is awesome.

A lot of popular artists (like Lost Frequencies, Martin Garrix, Calvin Harris etc) are on SoundCloud too, but often you need to have the premium plan (SoundCloud Go+) to be able to listen to it. But I usually just listen to remixes then.
Some DJs also upload their DJ sets to soundcloud. I often listen to that because it often has nice transitions. And I won't have ads for like multiple hours then! (Especially when listening to multiple sets)

Oh, I didn't know this. I remember using it almost a decade ago to listen to some awesome indie music I couldn't find anywhere else.

Ngl, looks neat! But, maybe talk to MrEd as well.

it's currently running on 10.0.1.173 and not scraping ED at all, i have a custom approach to things, and so far it's working great with 5 5-minute intervals or manual sync, data being logged in a MYSQL DB(including posts data and link to the post).

    Scraping from home?

obviously, i can either use residential proxies or my own residential connection for WAF instead of offloading everything on VM i decided to do it at home and might expose an API to public if needed.

Oh ok. BTW, what framework is this using in terms of the front end. Kinda looks cool.

    Vite + react.

Thanks for that. I have been looking to move away from my ancient Bootstrap sites.

I meant plain old YouTube  Spotify just increased their rates in India (not sure of worldwide) which made me hate them more.

Music platforms are pretty expensive in general nowadays!

Yup, I do understand that artists need to make money as well. But,Spotify is just plain greedy cause they know they have a huge market share.

I canceled Spotify and got back to Apple Music - not the subscription but buying songs directly. I'm listening to the same stuff all the time anyway.

  • Man, my keyboard is slowly giving out I guess. Sometimes it misses space presses. But, I am proud of it. It withstood 3 RackNerd threads. I remember @FrankZ telling me that he used to rip through a keyboard and a mouse every RackNerd thread.
Maybe @dustinc should add RackNerd branded keyboards and mouse next year. Us F5 warriors would definitely love it!

Navidrome just reads your music from (a) disk. So to add a new song, you just upload it do your vps and navidrome will automatically add it to the collection.

Not sure how these laws work in other countries. It should be mostly fine if you are doing it with a local server and if it's for personal use.
