Hit a road block when planning to downgrade cPanel licence. Please suggest alternatives.
Currently i have a dedicated server in hetzner with 280 cPanel accounts and a 300 accounts cPanel licence.
With the latest cpanel licence price update, i dedided to cut down to 200 account licence and shift remaining to my existing DirectAdmin reseller hosting.
I took backups, removed 30+ accounts which are no longer needed and marked the accounts which i need to migrate to DirectAdmin, which took one whole day.
After all the groundwork i came to know that Hetzer doesnt support upgrades or downgrades of cPanel licence which was effective from Jan 2025. So i cannot downgrade this licence.
I checked if there are any resellers, but i didnt find anyone.
I checked official cPanel but the price is higher and the price doesnt justify downgrading.
Currently i am thinking to
1.) Setup a new DirectAdmin server and migrate all accounts. I managed cPanel root server but i never managed DirectAdmin as root. I only have DirectAdmin reseller. Another issue is i have one reseller with 40 cPanel accounts and she doesnt know much. I have to train her to use DirectAdmin.
2.)Take a reseller cPanel account, but issue is i have 4 resellers who are my business clients. I need to find a reliable master reseller provider.
3.) Setup a new server with another provider and use their cPanel partner licence which will be cheaper. But my current $60 server at hetzner is cheap, reliable and fast. Not a single issue from past 4 years.
Can anyone let me know if there are any reliable cPanel or DA master reseller accounts provider. I just need 4 reseller accounts. I dont have plan for selling reseller accounts to strangers.
Or any cpanel licence provider at affordable cost.
Or any alternate server provider with reasonable price for dedicated server and cPanel
Why did cPanel/Hetzner make it so hard to downgrade licence?

There is no better price for cpanel license from any vendor. Slightly cheaper but not significant. Only server providers can give you a good discount on cpanel license if you get a server from them like Hetzner did.
What are your current server specs? And does it cost 60 euros or $60 per month?
Yes, it is Euros. I just entered ballpark figure. I pay 180 euros per month and i though 120 for cpanel and 60 for server. I just checked invoice, it is actually 80 euros for server and 99.5 for cPanel. Server is PX62 which Hetzner is no longer offering.
So we are talking about a server cost of $93 and not $60 as initially mentioned.
Would you consider US location as well or only EU?
We need EU server, as most of our clients are in UK, India, USA. East USA also works fine if i get at reasonable price.
Have you reached out to hetzner support asking to downgrade the cPanel license? They may be able to do it on request

master reseller is crap thing, you can just purchase normal reseller and give it to your client.
Order another hetzner server. Add smaller license to it. Migrate across.
Hetzer is no longer selling cPanel licences.
Hetzner no longer sells cPanel/Plesk licenses
You can try https://cplicense.net/buy-cheap-cpanel-license/ it has good prices
I pray that in the future there will be a viable commercial alternative to cpanel.
Thanks for mention in the previous post!
I've talked to the guys a few times about doing 'master resellers' with our own spin on it, but I can't get them onboard (yet).
Buying a few resellers and giving it to your users is pretty safe, assuming they pay on time. If you have resellers that get suspended all the time then you run into an issue where you're bugging the host to suspend/unsuspend pretty often.

Directadmin is great but it doesn't have the marketing power. I've yet to run into someone that needed cPanel for a technical reason, its usually just people stuck in their ways, or feel they would have to retrain their clients. Some are perfectly fine eating the tax for that peace of mind, but at some point everyone breaks.
The DA of now is completely different than where it was when this all started (if you recall the big 'help DA get better!' thread I made).

We provide reseller accounts, but all of them are known people and mostly we manage all of their end user accounts. We prodive web/application development services and host them in our servers, and our resellers are basically other web development companies where we share our development work and they dont have much knowledge about hosting. For me, master reseller is not to resell hosting but to segregate accounts between different clients.
We dont sell hosting separately as a service, so we have full control on what is hosted on our servers. We have less margin on hosting service as it is not our main thing and it actually helps us in managing as most of the accounts will be in our control.
So you could do it fine, its just a bit more annoying.
Let me know if we can help!

I'm wondering if simply biting the bullet, keeping your current setup, and paying the price increase might be a smarter option that making yourself crazy to maybe save a couple of bucks.
Yes, i am leaning more towards this option. But i have been biting bullet from past few years hoping that cPanel will not increase further in near future
. From now i will host most of the new accounts in DA, I might rebuild cpanel server by next year end, curently i am on CL8, if CL10 becomes stable and available for cPanel by next year end. Or i might ditch cpanel completely. All of their new features are crap just to justify their price increase.
