I mainly use it as a machine I can throw in a backpack when I leave the house and I'm on call since I won't care as much if it's broken/stolen. Besides ChromeOS, there is Android and a Linux container so you can do much more than just a browser on these things.
I got a Thinkpad C14 on a closeout sale a couple years ago, it's a 12th gen i5 with 8G ram (sadly soldered to the board). I forget the nvme size it came with but I upgraded it to 1TB.
I did decide this year I will try using my chromebook so i can keep it next to my actual laptop but keep the thread open and I can hit refresh from time to time
awww informi is sending you and racknerd some love @dustinc
and oh, there is also a steam client for chrome os (I believe it is its own container)
I mean thats fair... I would be devestated if my laptop was stolen, its my best machine, but only by a little, as it has a ever so slightly more powerful cpu
I thought they were shutting down steam for chromebook for good? https://gamerant.com/steam-shutting-down-chromebook-beta-when/

I struggle to read emojis? Is this you expressing agreement and that you are going for the scooter?
Hello, I would like to double my bandwidth.

Thanks!
basically you get the scooter..
You mean YOU (yes you @bchot ) will get the scooter! XD
HANDS OFF MY GAMING RIG XD
Yeah, I read that which it will be interesting once it's actually shutdown/disabled. Though one can always enable the gpu acceleration flag for the linux container and install it that way.
I mean then yea its kinda pointless for them to maintain a niche version if you can use the general linux version
i will only get the scooter by taking it from you after you win it here! @DaDeveloper
Well then I do not think you will get the rig or the scooter because I am gonna get the rig, and if you are getting the scooter from me in the case that I win it, then you will not get it because I will not win it, I am going to win the rig, not the scooter, I have no use for a scooter when I dont live near pavement
yeah, I don't blame them at all. Honestly, I think that was their testing ground for the gpu acceleration as more folks would be like "oh hey, I can play some steam on my chromebook!" instead of enabling the flag, using a shell to install steam, and then playing steam games
That very well be my longest message here so far. I need to work on being a bit more verbose so that I can fuel conversation more, and it will give me typing practice, as I have gotten out of the habit partily due to the fact that I do not send out emails as much and no longer play as many multiplayer video games...
though, it could be related how google is basically going to be merging android and chromeos. Like right now, ChromeOS is linux with android in a container where after they merge (said 2026 but didn't say much details about it), it's basically going to be chromeos on android.
What games can you even play on a chrome book, I am under the impression that even the most high dollar chrome books are still a poor deal when it comes to performance per dollar/other currency
i been playing FROSTPUNK lately.. fun game..
In which android is just a child of the linux kernel with a whole bunch of other shit added on to make it functional as a mobile operating system... they may have also cut out a lot of the older code regarding older platforms and cpus
i mean, sure... sure.... 🤞🤞🤞
LOL is that all you are going to say about the game? That its fun? What is it about? When was it released? Do I need to look it up myself? What do you like most about it?

Thank you!

Oh wow, I am making my way up the Mr Eds board faster than I though, Im gunning for TrK's place already. Better watch out bchot that would mean that you are next XD
it's a nice little city builder in the ever-frozen land with a steam-punk twist.. on steam. they actually came out with 2nd installment recently. i LOVE city builders. or world builders. or any other build/maintain/develop games.
Thank you for sending me this, I did not know that there was a website for it, now I have another place to track for my list of things to update family about updating devices... My aunt bought her daughter a chromebook for school
well, android works great on it, even on intel machines (there was an issue for a long time where some games on x86_64 machines were laggy/buggy) but steam wise, it varied on wine/proton support and the machine you're using. Though older games generally were flawless. Obviously you weren't going to be playing some new AAA title on ultra
Is it closer to something like SIM CITY or things like Skylines?
