yeah, cats are rarely friendly.. the one on the left - she won't even let me hold her for longer than 10-15 sec.. middle one is my lap-baby, and Toby on the right - he also comes to hang, mostly in the morning to warm up.. i also have another ginger - that one is simply so elusive and uncatchable, that i barely cut his nails twice a year..

Yeah, that's why I can't help but laugh a little because she always forgets, even when it's the same cat. Took a little over 2 years of her persistence to shrink the bubble of this cat. He won't be her cuddle buddy but he finally stopped instantly running off or hitting her if she gets too close or gives him a kiss (he does get an "annoyed" look when she kisses him)
that's true, cats are very very very independent, most of them accept food.. i also feed those cats in the alley i was unable to adopt, used to be more, now only 2 coming around, mostly racoon feasts on the food i bring later at night. used to be more cats eating, but alas, they don't live long in the alley..
kudos for trying though! i mean kudos to you mostly. but those 2 are quite cute!

One is a total sweetheart, glued to me like a personal heating device.
The other… well, I’m allowed about two minutes of petting per day, strictly regulated, and only if it immediately results in food.

true that! I love all my cats, and sometimes, I think, I notice some of them being kinda friendsly to me..
if it weren't for Mini, I don't even know... Previously I had 3 cats, one of them was like a little doggie, he followed me around, always ready to cuddle, he hugged my neck when I picked him up. When I got home, he'd always come over to greet me. These cats are mostly all nearing 5yo, and their Mom is probably 6 now, and I've been WFH for the whole time since pandemic, so they are too used to having me around, I guess.. The mother cat of the 5, who I call exactly that - MAMA - still spends most of the time outside in summer. In winter she gets FAT at home maybe 6-7Kg, but then in summer she loses weight so drastically ends up being like 3-4 Kg. She spends day and night outside catching mice in the alley, then tries to bring them home as a gift. every mouse she caught I found on my doorstep later.. sometimes 2-3 a night. she very good. sometimes she eats some part of those mice.. little ones. she don't mess with the grown ass rats there, - dangerous. but she does well trying to prevent little ones from growing up. wife works in a pet store, so she also brought home 1 from there. and another 1 we got from the street when he was like a few weeks old, abandoned by some bad mom.. all he wanted was a mother, and since then he is really really REALLY happy when MAMA comes home.. and that's the story of my 8 cats..

And MAMA sounds like the undisputed CEO of the whole operation. The seasonal weight-shift alone is impressive… winter mode: “fluffy home executive,” summer mode: “lean professional mouse-control technician.”
growing up my family had both dogs and cats, but never more than 1 at a time. well, we had 1 cat, then we had 1 dog (she was a great dane, huuuuuge).. but now I only have cats. and no kids. cause who got time? 😊😊😊
My cat is 23 years old... I mean... I love the nutter but he gets annoying.
I have 1 cat, 1 dog, 1 kid, 18 fishes, 14 chickens.
i wish my cats lived half of that.. 3 previous all died from deceases by 10-11y.o. these i try to feed grain free diet, buy pet insurance and regularly bring them to the vet for yearly checkups and blood-work. so.. fingers crossed...
i always say, 8 cats is like half a kid, but what do i know, really...
