Alibaba Cloud ESA (Edge Security Acceleration) also offers global CDN, WAF, DNS, SSL/TLS, Pages & Edge Runtime (Worker), Unlimited Egress and more. It's pretty similar to Cloudflare, but I still prefer Cloudflare at this moment

    Is there free tier available?

  • Im using PremiumDNS from Namecheap $5 a year :)

That's actually a very fine usage of AI. I mean, I freaking hate AI but this most definitely adds enrichment to this conversation

Namecheap DNS is a Cloudflare replacement?

Why pay Namecheap for their "Premium" DNS when Cloudflare gives it free?

  • DigitalOcean DNS is free too.

  • Is it possible to setup failover dns using various free dns providers?

Yes.. I've talked the free offer, But payment method is still required even though they won't charge anything.

  • Amazon Route 53 can be a good option.

  • this is what you get with cf, most of it for free:

for contrast, you get most of these features with haproxy and apache/nginx

Use haproxy+apache with mod_security [apache module] and you do not need cloudflare at all

Yes, most of those features can be achieved with just nginx, the only things you miss out on are L7 ddos protection (which most people don't need) and AI bot blocking (constant cat and mouse game).

In fact, I've set up a WAF in front of all my web servers, and it can even block AI bots. Plus, this WAF is open-source and free, allowing you to write your own rules and plugins—pretty interesting. (https://github.com/Safe3/uusec-waf

Not many in the L7 DDoS space with a global network that can handle capacity of Cloudflare

Google, Azure but price will be different 😅

    HE.net has free DNS.

Please no. Interface is confusing, and it takes ages to propagate the changes.

Well you can use Bunny (aff/non-aff) if you need an EU alternative to Cloudflare.

I like that DNS has really generous free tier and also CDN has very good pricing, you can give it a shot.

Also quick tip, you can create vanity nameservers which is a big plus for me (don't ask why).

LE: Also you can see an comparison between them.

  • I'm with others, I'll say stay with cloudflare, ddos migration is the only reason I'll stay. You aren't going to find a provider with ddos protection as good as them (price wise).

  • Akamai is another alternative.

If you are looking for alternatives, it is depends on whether you need DNS, CDN, or maybe full application protection. If it´s for DNS, maybe Bunny DNS, Hurricane Electric (they are free), and in CDN, BunnyCND (not free but very cheaper).

They are not perfect, but Cloudflare replacement.

    No fumos in CF?

  • It would be nice to have an open source solution to create/manage WAF and rate limiting rules. Under the hood it could implement nginx as a reverse proxy, and manage sites from an interface.

With something like this, you could setup a small server on your primary servers local network to filter and direct traffic. Your primary server wouldn't even need a public IP.

    Does this not already exist??

Yeah.. but CF has a free CDN, DDoS migration, CF Tunnel (For NAT servers but wireguard works too), CF WARP, free SSL via Google & Let's Encrypt, WAF. all for free on the free plan.. imo, all my servers run nginx, but the thing is i like about CF is that you can mask your origin website even though you can swap servers and cf will give you the same duelstack IP address
