Aurologic accused of being a major actor in enabling cybercrime

  • It’s getting tiring seeing every thread go off-track because of the same political rants. People come here to talk hosting, not argue about unrelated propaganda. Everyone else manages to stay on topic, so it’s fair to expect the same from @rustelekom. It would be good if we kept discussions focused on the actual thread instead of repeating the same off-topic arguments.

    Yep, it’s always like this.

  • @rustelekom , I'd like to ask you to refrain from posting any further comments in this thread

Otherwise, I'd like to ask everyone to remain on-topic, where the topic is aurologic -- see the opening post

    (a) why is it OK for certain users to attack @jh_aurologic based on mere allegations, but it's not OK if @rustelekom talks about aspects he notices?

    (b) @jh_aurologic laid out multiple times that not only does he fully comply with relevant laws but that doing what some users here consider necessary or at least highly desirable and/or "the right thing to do" would actually be illegal.

    (c) no, you are not talking about cybersecurity and child porn per se but you are talking about it in the tight context of attacking js_aurologic, up to the point of saying "you are accused of ...".

Hint: the "source" of OP clearly and evidently is politically biased and names Russia as one of their 4 focus points. Plus the attack on jh_aurologic is largely based on some - alleged or factual, Idk - relation to a russian hoster.

Btw, it was not rustelekom's choice to create this thread and it also wasn't his choice to make it with a heavy anti-Russia undertone.

If your issue is that you feel aurologic is being treated unjustly, then feel free to talk about it, I have no issue with that.

But don’t make it about ukrainians, climate activism, censorship, pension limits, or whatever else. This is not about some evil political activist trying to censor a provider. This is solely about the fact that aurologic has an unusually high amount of shady providers as customers.

If you guys can't limit your discussion to this because you lack the intellectual capacity, or because your employment doesn't allow for it, then just go somewhere else where you're actually welcome.

Yes, thats the case, if you believe it or not. Just to add it here, there was also other providers providing upstream to the same ASN, known on LET. There was multiple Tier-2, as well as Tier-1 like Liberty Global. But I do get it, if something happens and aurologic as DDoS-Protection provider shows up, the picture is complete in light of the recent article - black and white vs. color issue again ;)

Have you ever compared the amount of customers Liberty Global has?
Their malicious downstreams are less than 0.1% of what they have.

You currently have 45 downstreams, literally 30% of them are known bulletproof hosts.
If that's not a pattern, I don't know what is.

Comparing yourself to actual internet critical infra, is laughable. The only people your infra is critical for, is criminals, because they have nowhere else to go.

I talk about activism, because emgh is one of the best examples of such activists. As usual, he speculates on moral and ethical issues but attack professional, who just attempts to do his work following local legislation. As always, anything which is against your own opinion is called propaganda. Propaganda for what?

Killing every activist would be a more positive idea, because gang-banging activists in any field of human activity only increases hate, bullies, and war against other opinions. They are like a band because it is always easier to bully someone than to do something useful and real.

I despise activists and don't believe a word they say.

Guys let’s keep our cool and don’t engage him. I’ve flagged yet again. He obviously can’t follow @angstrom ’s comment about not participating anymore. Let’s see if we see a ban and then we can continue this on-topic. Won’t be possible for as long as he’s not banned.

I'm all for holding companies accountable but that's not what this is about, this is about accusing a company alleged to have relations with a russian company. Even up to the point of not letting off when the attacked company clearly states to fully comply with relevant laws.

    @Alyx said:

I didn't, nor afaik did @jh_aurologic. Also kindly note that both OP and the "source" behind it (as well as quite a few commenters) clearly and obviously are biased.
It's simple: show proper and tangible evidence and if any possible, stay away from political tangents and I wont debate what you say and actually likely concur.
Also, what's it then? If being russian [or whatever nationality] is a major tangent - and it was, starting right with the very questionable "source" - then don't complain if users who like Russia are objecting. And if the nationality is irrelevant then, well, simply leave it out.

Plus: sorry but past experience does play a role. Like which country bent over, didn't give a rats ass about justice, law, and rules and happily made up false criminal charges against Julian Assange?

If you guys can't limit your discussion to this because you lack the intellectual capacity, or because your employment doesn't allow for it, then just go somewhere else where you're actually welcome.

    (a) it's not up to you (or me) to decide who's welcome here.
    (b) So, you mean "free speech - as long as we like what you're saying/talking about"?
    (c) Btw, I largely agree, but in this case the rule holds "if you poke someone often enough, sooner or later they'll react", so I can well understand that Russians, after many years of slinging mud at them do react (and maybe even feel attacked when (rarely) they are not attacked).

Sorry, that IMO is not acceptable. Despising activists I can understand but the idea to kill them definitely is not an acceptable idea, not even remotely.
