"Storage box"-like companion service similar to Hostbrr's, for redundancy
I switched from backing up to Storj and Backblaze B2 with Restic, to backing up to Hostbrr with Borg. I need another service similar to Hostbrr's storage box for redundancy. Any suggestions? I am looking for something with similar pricing if possible, and I don't want to use Hetzner's storage box because many of my servers are there and I want to keep all backups elsewhere. Thanks in advance

How much are you looking to store?
2TB would be perfect. I paid 45 euros for 2TB for one year with Hostbrr so if I could find another service with similar price it would be awesome.
This looks good but I don't need 4TB https://pulsedmedia.com/storage-boxes.php @PulsedMedia
You could try this one: https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/207471/dedirock-storage-wars-is-back-black-friday-type-pricing/p1
Looks amazing but latency would be too high for me. Something somewhere in Europe would be better.
Is latency important for backups? 🤔
Tagging @NetDynamics24 - they have similar storage boxes in both EU and US and borg should work fine. Just be sure to pick a redundant location (in terms of storage) because I think in NL they don't have any redundancy (RAID0).
Also, they have good sales during BF - so you may want to wait for a couple of weeks.
Good point, but I don't like too slow backups
But I will keep this option on the table. Pricing is great. Thanks
I have 2 storage boxes with HostHatch and have no complains, their network is really good so latency should not be a problem if you go with one of their European locations.
Not exactly in the price range you mentioned, but BF is coming up and they usually have some good deals.
i got the Storage VPS M of @NovaCloudHosting like 2 weeks ago:

works well so far
I have used them in the past and I was happy with it. But I would like something a bit cheaper.
This may be a good option. Thanks
@hosthatch offer good storage VPS but you are better off waiting until BF, if you have time.
Hosthatch is closest storage wise, I haven't had issues with hostbrr just for backup though
If you need more Storage in the future or a completely custom configuration, let me know.
There was some talk about how they use plaintext to store passwords. Does anyone know if this has been fixed?
AFAIK, they fixed it, there was a message about it somewhere.
Any links or references? I had no idea about this.
maybe @host_c
Yes we have fixed it. All of our servers store the passwords encrypted.
waiting providers matching @layer7 $5 5tb storage.
When was this offered? It's interesting any links ?
Then think of it as 1TB which comes with 3TB extra, if that helps
Vito, what the hell, again you are going for cheap stuff for a production :-/
Hi,
i dont want to be a fun breaker... but asking for a price match of an offer that is ( at least at the time when asking ) not available is quiet adventurous
Microtronix has something similar: https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/199130/stock-liquidation-colos-dedis-and-storage-at-microtronix-dc-ohio. The price is still $2/m per TB.
Wouldn't having backups in a different continent be better for extra redundancy?
Sorry for the delay, have been busy with work and had to postpone these changes. It's likely I will go with your Halloween storage VPS with 2TB. Pricing is similar to the Hostbrr storage box but just to confirm if I order will the location be NL? At least that's what I see here https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/210880/halloween-sale-10-year-vps/p1
This one looks good too, thanks - and you got me thinking about the location and redundancy. Maybe you're right. Do you have experience with this service?
yes its NL location
Yup
As I see it, what's independent of my existing backup is good redundant backup. Having backups in different countries can do wonders, and it's more than just physical independence.
I don't have much experience with either this type of storage box or Microtronix's service.
Frankly, I don't intensively use this kind of shell account for anything but backup since there's latency, and the HDD is limited in both speed and IO. I rclone it, rsync it, encrypt everything I upload. The only thing I need is that files can be uploaded and they remain accessible. I just set it up with and forget about it. Theoretically you can reduce SSH overhead with your cipher option but I find it negligible.
It's been a few days since I started to be a Microtronix user and the experience isn't far from HostBrr's box. I use the same tools used for HostBrr, albeit the port speed is higher and traffic is unmetered, IPv6 is supported.
