OVH Account Confusion: US vs CA
I'm currently paying $29/month for a KS-Store server. I noticed that on the OVH Canada site it's $26.60 USD, so to save a few dollars per month I created an OVH CA account. However, during billing I can't select "United States." It does let me choose a random address in Mexico, but I'm not comfortable putting a production server on an account with a fake address.
Before I contact OVH, I wanted to ask here: if you're in the US, what has your experience been navigating this? I also noticed that none of the "Limited Edition" servers are available on the US site.
So is it simply that US customers aren't eligible for those offers, or are US folks just using Canadian accounts?

Comments
I believe the intention is the US customers are supposed to use the US website/service.
Prior to that existing we were able to sign up for CA and (maybe world?) accounts.
I'll leave strategies/workarounds/etc to others. I'm glad to be grandfathered in CA.
Gotcha. Yeah, I'm definitely not grandfathered in, I only started using them this year. I'm happy with the service and the price overall, but it's a bit annoying that the US site is more expensive and has fewer offers. Especially since the available datacenters are the same for both, right?
I am not sure of the datacenter overlap. My father has an OVH US account and can lease servers from Virginia (Vint Hill) and I believe other US locations. I've never seen those as options in my CA account.
Yeah, looks like you're right, that's odd. I assumed all regions would be available for all customers.

Well I appreciate the insight and history, I didn't realize OVH US was a recent thing.
I've never used ovh. I registered a US account recently hoping to snag a flash sale.
Based on my experience thus far and the limitations inherent in a US account I don't believe I will ever be a paying customer.
I read somewhere that a person can have an account in other locations, and I was able to create a world account using the same email; however I found it impossible to complete the account details using my US credentials.
Conclusion: France hates America.
OVH US intentionally very segment, wall and block off from other part of OVH due https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CLOUD_Act
This.
But that is about OVH Us being separated and US DCs only available on OVH US.
I still think US clients should be allowed to open account on OVH CA World/US$ subsidiary.
I mean, OVH doesn't care if non US having an US account.
I still got the 1$ virtual servers from a sale, where OVH said recurring, afterwards they changed it to 12 months.
And did they changed the price after 12 months?
Waiting for yr reply , i dmed u for le b
No, but for people that ordered like a week later.
Sneaky.
i think it might be better to any client to buy vps from Any Dc
And maybe they just only be like that (pricing) in usa because the strict taxs
Oh, so it's because of regulations like what's been happening to crypto exchanges and gambling sites. How nice.
Separating client accounts by country is probably one of the biggest downsides of OVH. It messes with pricing, transfers, and the available regions. Why not be like Hetzner and have everyone log into the same panel?
But Hetzner has a different company for US as well and you will have to sign a different DPA if you use a Hetzner US location afaik.
Big thanks to hetzner they just don't accepts anyone outside Eu/Us+Ca
or any county that haven't Tax
even if you dance in verification center 😆
We have a different branch of the company that is a US entity, but we also have data protection agreement there. If you have any questions about data protection, please contact our data protection officer, who will be happy to help you. Please use the email address [email protected]. --Katie
Hi there, We accept customers from countries that many people generally consider to be "risky". A customer's country of origin does play a role, but it is just one of MANY factors that we look at. When we reject an account, there are usually several different yellow/red flags. We're sorry that we cannot accept every account, but we have to be very careful to prevent abuse, and we prefer to err on the side of caution. --Katie
Thanks katie i know you just an social media account manager but i see this comment in every time anyone complain about hetzner verification process
i already try multiple times and contact you in reddit and without any kind of help just rejecte without any reason even after review from your collage and as you see not me or couple of people who only complain about this problem
i know this is your company and you accept who you want to make you business safety and clear
But the truth will be the truth
even if you accept risky country
i am sure 90~95% don't get the chance
thanks
Back to topic about OVH US vs OVH CA:
Have you tried to setup and access your OVH CA account via the World subsidiary, so this URL
https://ca.ovh.com/auth/?onsuccess=https://ca.ovh.com/manager&ovhSubsidiary=WE
(that is World subsidiary with US$ as currency via OVH CA)
or a different one at ca.ovh.com (e.g. Canada subsidiary)? E.g. the last one surely won't accept an USA address while the world one might.
And as OVH is mixing domains I would recommend to try this in a new private browser window without any OVH cookies (as I assume OVH saves a cookie about the subsidiary you are in).
I tried that but had no luck. Couldn't select US as the country or phone number prefix
yup US customers are restricted to US only.
I had the same problem. Support did tell me a US-based flash sale would be forthcoming. That would be awesome!!
Translation: We get the dregs of the oldest hardware at double the price.
Quite likely but I have my hopes up.
Maybe US customer can register company in Canada and then make purchase.
If you register an account outside the country you have a higher chance of being asked to verify photo ID
US customers can stay in the US. You don't need Canada eh?
Hi again, First, I am sorry that this happened to you personally. What you see on social media can be somewhat misleading, though. People are MUCH more likely to complain on social media if their account is rejected. But if their account is accepted, and everything goes smoothly, most people never comment or post about it. This phenomenon is not just true when it comes to KYC (know your customer) processes at web hosting companies -- you can see it in many other industries.
We are truly sorry that we cannot accept every account and that we have to be so careful about abuse. --Katie
