Can anyone tell me what OVH panel "Increase storage" actually means?

I bought a KS-LE-E.

Saw that everyone who bought a KS-LE-B won multiple hard drives.

But my KS-LE-E didn't win; it only had 4x2TB hard drives.

Then I saw an "Increase storage" button on the control panel.

Clicking it shows the image below.

OVH says "Need more space? Below are different options for your configuration. Please note that the volume entered will be the total number of disks your server will have with the option selected. Also, you cannot downgrade back to a lower configuration."

I don't understand what it means, confused me.

But the price is 0. Does it mean I can add more SSD space for free, or does it mean I can upgrade from an 4x2TB drive to a 2x480 SSD version for free?

You need to click it at a rapid rate for the secret storage unlock to be added to your server

Helps if you also have a platinum OVH credit card.

  • I've heard from MJJ forum that it allows you to convert SSD to HDD or vice versa.

For example, if you order KS-LE-B and got a bonus 2 x 1.92 TB NVMe, and you wanted HDD version instead of the NVMe. You can then choose this upgrade option for 2 x 2 TB SATA HDD. The system will generate a $0 invoice. You cannot directly pay for it, but it is possible to contact OVH customer service and they can get you sorted out on this invoice, then you got the sweet 2 x 2 TB SATA HDD instead of the 2 x 1.92 TB NVMe.

Tl; Dr: You won't get an "upgrade." Instead, once you go through this option, your servers' storage will be changed to whatever you select at this upgrade page.

Sorry, you got me intrigued. How does this work? During special sale only?

Maybe another hidfen gamble in this?

Buy a stock LE-B with HDD and request switch to NVMe. If they have no 450 drives available, what will you get? ;-)

  • I'm also curious on what increase storage does. Like does it give you the extra HDD or does it convert the existing HDD to SSD

    Upgrade your storage
Need more space? Below are different options for your configuration. Please note that the volume entered will be the total number of disks your server will have with the option selected. Also, you cannot downgrade back to a lower configuration.

If you read carefully, it is actually 'Switch to a different set of disks' instead of 'Increase storage'

  • So it's basically switch the type of disk so what if you order HDD cause SSD is OOS will it give you the option to switch?

yes but ovh disabled it on all servers you could use the api to pay the 0.00 order and they will switch your drives.

How do I make the payment via the API?
    I can not found order

Therefore, it should not be called "Upgrade your storage", but rather "Replace".

I would speculate that this is an option OVH added for their dedis that have multiple storage options, so that people who have outgrown their server can upgrade rather than cancelling the box and ordering a new one. And because not everything is about the limited edition cheap boxes, it appeared in the panel of our small KS even though it makes no sense in that case.
