Oh, yes, you can tell about r&d to all engineers before 2007, when every year computers makes faster and faster and cost goes down every year. And then iPhone happens. ((((

    Wut?

R&D it's not a new thing, R&D was in the past and companies spend billions for it. Today every reseller try to by prone case on taobao and sell it for 10x-100x profit. That's why iphone in 2007 was $100 and today more than $1000.

Not sure what that has to do with capitalism as a bad thing, that's where the greatest innovation happens.

Also, the iPhone didn't debut at $100 and was heavily subsidized by the provider. The first iPhone didn't even have fucking copy and paste.

I have no fucking clue what you're talking about.

Guys am I the only one who sees decent prices?

Actually 2€/GB is the common price I'm seeing in every store.

This is desktop/consumer grade, non-ECC RAM. Would not suggest putting non-ECC in a server.

For my desktop. Non ecc. Sorry for the confusion

Closing my business doesn't sound like good idea to me :(

  • I do not like this. Even if I do not buy RAM myself, I'm dependent on providers buying RAM. I do not like this.

    1. Make LXC plans.
    2. Install USB stick and configure as SWAP.
    3. Oversell and profit.

Should I stop growing my business [...]?

Yes. Duck! You are smart enough to understand how to keep your business with low-end hardware.

[...] or tell my customers I cant sell to them because of politicians?

Yes. Be honest about it. Increase prices like crazy to customers (as everything gets more expensive) and explain why it is not your fault - it is just politics of how people voted. If customers wish to support such behaviour from politicians, or have nothing else to do with their lots money, they can spend it through you if they wish. All you can do is be open about it and try to make some profits for your work and your risks. But please note this is not a good time for investments, due to the high risks and volatility.

My message was to customers mostly, because economy as we know is falling apart right in front of our eyes. My worry is not for the economy though, but for the civilisation as a whole, as crime and illegal activities and civil unrest will grow over time. We are smart animals, but many of us are not very wise - too many thoughts correlated with money that are about to fall apart.

Please note @jonbeard that it is very hard to predict what will happen in order to be smarter than others. History has never confronted an empire of capitalism falling, and obviously not at such a large scale. This is new, and extremely dangerous too (because now the monkeys possess weapons that can burn the whole forest down - with all the other animals and all the other birds and insects in it).

In my opinion the only way we can leave an important message to politicians and corporations, is by lowering our work and not paying them, as if appealing to their own dream that drives them: greed. Such is a message they can not ignore, but we must stick together for something like this to work; unfortunately there are many cowards with their own greed in this world (precisely because they can't or won't see the bigger picture). Maybe the end is nigh, I don't know, or maybe I just feel like hoping for a better future in which leaders are wise.

Everyone thought the world was ending during COVID with supply chains. Remember how car lots were empty? The market always bounces back bro. Business is booming (for us atleast).

On a personal note: Stress over the things that you yourself can control bro. All the other noise and crap thats going on in the world, you and I cannot control. Sure we can determine where we spend out money... But I hear your stress in your message and I see a lot of my younger self in this reply. Get married, have kids, find purpose and joy in your life and focus on that. The news and the system wants you focused on the doom and gloom because fear blocks rational thinking and your attention/time = ad revenue for them. This is why rich people buy the dips and sell at the highs. When the media and the population is freaking out about "collapse" or "depression" (that they manufacture via MSM, Social Media, etc), they buy the stocks. Thats why "war" itself is a huge money machine. Put people into a state of fear and theyll go along with anything! (Think Iraq, Afghanistan, etc).

You're halfway there to recognizing the problem. Just focus on what you, yourself can impact and change. You can and will worry yourself sick. Research the impacts that our thoughts and words have on our physical bodies (cancer, sickness, diseases) and the studies that have been done on living plans (organisms).

For me, it was putting my faith in Jesus Christ, and that knowing all these things that are happening have been prophesied thousands of years ago. For me it started on a journey to disprove Christianity but ended up in a radical transformation and coming from occultism/atheism/new age. God is not the author of fear, anxiety and stress. My intention of my original post was to not incite fear or anything, but asking how other providers are seeing the markets shift.

I say all of this, not as a person of position or like I "got it all together". I fall flat every single day, and FAIL miserably. But in the end, it's God's grace that keeps me going :) Feel free to DM me anytime if you need to talk. I'd also be happy to share my Discord with you as well.

I'm sure a lot will scoff at my message, and hey maybe I will even get in trouble for talking about it, but I am in the process of stop caring what people think of me and hey maybe this is a step in that direction :)

It'll never get bad enough to make Apple's RAM/Storage upgrade pricing look sane.

Its officially that bad. DDR4, If you can find it, now is around 2 - 3X from a few months ago. 64G DDR5 ECC is now $400+ per module.

Word on the street is OpenAI secured 40% of total global output production of all DRAM from Samsung, Micron and SY Hynix over the next year for their Stargate project. Its expected to consume up to 900,000 DRAM wafers/month for the next several years.

In fact, almost all components are getting more difficult and expensive to source in general.

Yes this is what we are hearing as well. We just managed to secure around 600ish sticks of 48G DDR5 for our 9950x line over the weekend. We will continue providing for our customers (a lot of hosting companies reselling our hardware).

Ideally we will be able to continue global deployments and do the best we can to continue providing services that work best for their margins and not have to have extended long deployments.

Things are about to get shaken up in the bare metal market, thats for sure!

Things are about to get shaken up across the entire industry. Even dusty old hardware running unsustainable deals are going to become impossible to maintain, upgrade or make economic sense to keep in production. Hate to say it, but LET may need a rebrand — Mid-End Talk (MET).

I am very happy that you found some serenity. I it awesome and congratulations. I shall not mock your message or opinions in any way with regards to your faith and beliefs. I completely understand them.

I would define myself as being in the opposite direction. I have understood God for more than 20 years, but time after time I did not like what I saw. So I decided to go into the opposite direction and hit the acceleration pedal to maximum speed. Now I am at full-blown war with God and I would totally hate him if he would exist (maybe I would even kill him again, but that's another discussion).

I do however love people and the world in general, I understand our limitations and appreciate each opinion because it has a beautiful justification and reasoning behind it, even though our deep-thinking is quite limited and sprinkled with particular emotions within each individual. I believe things will bounce back, and humanity will recover, including for my small family; but I can't simply ignore the elephant in the room (greed and corruption of politicians) just to focus on myself - I don't want to be selfish and I already don't like myself in some moments when I dare of thinking selfishly.

Sounds like we need more chip manufacturers. Silicon Valley, I thought, was that back in the day, but I guess theyre more interested in designing than actually building.

I can imagine its likely an incredibly expensive business to be in.

TSMC apparently is investing $100B in Arizona for semiconductor components

    Also this: https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/us-startup-substrate-announces-chipmaking-tool-that-it-says-will-rival-asml-2025-10-28/

But how or why the market allows disruptors to buy whole inventories, leaving the rest of the market in shambles, is beyond me lol

  • I see stock everywhere just prices increased with no justification.
But if you ask me, i want ram to get so expensive, at least 1000$/per GB so devs fucking start optimise theyr junk approach to eat more and more ram because its fucking cheap and why bother. But no such thing will happen.

prices going crazy in middle east more than 25% in prices especially ddr5 32ram

  • @x1arch said:

    @jonbeard said:
Why is China making another run for all the RAM in the market? We are being told they are buying all the stock from Kingston, Crucial, etc for their own AI deployment.

From what we are hearing from our suppliers, expect RAM and NVMe shortages in the marketplace from now until Q1 of 2027.

Not sure if this is just a North America shortage or what, but 48GB DDR5 is dang near impossible to find now. 32GB sticks will soon be impacted + NVMe's.

This likely will shake up the bare metal market and eventually trickle down into the consumer market.

    What are your thoughts?

Every 6 month I see news about ram and nvme/ssd cost rise. :'(

Hey, your info might be a bit outdated, my friend. Actually, memory prices have been going up since 2025, and lately it’s not just RAM—hard drives are rising too.

At the same time, Micron has pulled out of the Chinese market, and CXMT (https://www.cxmt.com/
) might pick up that share.

To give some context, Micron made around $3.4B from China, about 12% of its total revenue. Why they had to leave? Well… you can blame Trump 😅

On top of that, China is building AI data centers on a massive scale, so prices are likely to stay high for quite a while.

Of course, if YMTC and CXMT can ramp up production to meet domestic demand, things might ease a bit.
