It's not much work once you get it setup, finding reasonably priced BGP VPS is the fun part once you have the ASN
It's going pretty good I think there is like 3 or 4 other people also using my ASN at this point it's a communal effort

Yeah, the internet is fragile and BGP is a trust based mess
Not much surprisingly, RIPE make it pretty easy with their sponsorship program so you can have a LIR sponsor your application to avoid having to provide justification for the ASN, paying full registration fees, etc.
All you really need is to be able to list 2 peers who will be "peering" with you on your application - any VPS provider who offers BGP VPS in Europe should do along with an invoice for or two for a BGP VPS
I registered a business with a registered agent in New Mexico because I didn't want to dox my full details registering an ASN as an individual and that cost me about $90 USD I think, that process was probably even more simple than getting the ASN
