@shayneeo said: Looked at his github, I think it is okay. But he joined here in September. Pretty new here. What do you think @Not_Oles.

@shayneeo Thanks for stepping up! You are a great addition to the FOSSVPS Team!

I haven't yet looked at the Github. One thing I tried to do when I was processing new requests was to look through the post and comment history, trying to find helpful and friendly comments, tutorials, a commitment to open source, etc. Sometimes requests include additional information, such as a website or a blog or other social media accounts. When there was minimally sufficient information I tried to ask for more. I always kept trying to find a basis sufficient to accept the requests.

Sometimes it was easy to accept a request. Your request was a perfect example of an excellent request. :star:

So what does this mean for the current Alexhost VMs? Wipe and moved to another HV but how does the future look in regards to how long the VMs can be kept?
Is there any ETA for this move?
Could the current machines be moved or is the only option a reinstall? This part doesn't matter much, just wondering.

  • My pub key is

Hi thank you for your application, but as @Not_Oles mentioned before, we are currently stop accepting new application. We are changing our base services, changing the management team. Many things are happening right now. We will make sure there will be announcement when things are ready and we are accepting new applications.

Talking about your application @belencitaesteban, I think I would ask you for more detail:

    • How can we know that, the website you shared the link is yours?
    • Will you promise that you will use the VPS given to you for only open-source, non-commercial project?
    • Do you have any past projects? Something like evidences?

So what does this mean for the current Alexhost VMs? Wipe and moved to another HV but >how does the future look in regards to how long the VMs can be kept?
Is there any ETA for this move?
Could the current machines be moved or is the only option a reinstall? This part doesn't >matter much, just wondering.

Thank you @zejjnt for all these questions, I don't know I am in the role to answer all of your questions but I will try to give you what I know.

    • Current Alexhost VMs will be wipe and the base of the server will change to Promox. That said, your data will be lost so make sure all your data is backed up (we will announce the maintainance time for Alexhost server later)
    • The VMs will be kept as long as Alexhost maintain the support for our project. That said we do announce that the VMs are "Ephemeral. Could disappear at any moment!". So we can't promise you anything. But we do want to make the project run as long as possible.

    Big thanks to @alexhost !

Thank you for your suggestion. We will consider your opinion!
    In summary,

    • We changed our main leader. The old one @Not_Oles, stepped down. The FOSSVPS project now is not running as one man show anymore, we are trying to form a team and manage the project (with @Not_Oles as a advisor).
    • The core system (how we divide the big server into small VPSes): is changing to Promox. And it's still in testing stage (not affecting anyone because we are running Promox on @Hosteroid server (that is not assigned for anyone outside the management team),

Yep that's all I know. If you @zed or any other guys come here and confused. Please let me know. I would be happy to answer all of your questions.

Big thanks to @Hosteroid for Bucharest node!

    Good morning!

If I understood correctly what I heard from the FOSSVPS Team:

    • the FOSSVPS London / Fareham / UK server node ( Thanks Onlyservers! <) ) will be wiped and rebuilt with Proxmox tomorrow morning, Thursday, October 23, 2025 starting around 09:00 GMT.

    • Current FOSSVPS London / Fareham / UK users who want to continue should please post here. If there is no post here, the FOSSVPS Team will assume that they do not want to continue and reassign their VPSes.

Any questions or concerns, please post here so that the FOSSVPS Team can address them.

    Best wishes!

@msatt Thinking of you, wishing you the best for tomorrow morning's UK node reinstall with Proxmox! I know you have a lot of Proxmox experience, and also that you have recently completed installs on other servers, so I have high confidence in an excellent outcome.

You are investing a lot of effort into FOSSVPS, as are other members of the Team, and I am grateful! :star:

Did you accidentally poke around with the Alexhost networking while migrating London? Lost network for a couple of minutes there :P
    (Not complaining, just curious)

I saw the same network blip that you did. It was only for like 2 minutes though so it could have been anything. Maybe Trump farted and caused a butterfly effect of network instability for 120 seconds.

    Wasn't me guv.
I trashed the server (now called uk1.fossvps.org) as planned (around 10:15 GMT), kindly donated by onlyservers. We will give a full update soon, at the moment we are just doing final testing.
Lots of things up in the air at the moment - but we have a new logo / avatar (thanks @igctt ).

HetrixTools is pretty good at catching downtime. FWIW, Hetrix reports no recent downtime for the Alexhost node IPv4 and IPv6 addresses:

I didn't. Again, it only showed down for roughly 2 minutes so by the time I noticed the alert it was already back up. Definitely nothing major. Just a quick blip.

Same. It did happen again a few hours later and went on for like 10-15 minutes but I figured someone was doing something so I didn't bother checking again and everything came up without having rebooted.
I'll try to run one if/when it happens again :)> @Not_Oles said:

I run both Hetrix and Fivenines and it caught it. Unfortunately we're 3 hours too late for me to be able to see it on the overview since it was so brief but Fivenines comes to the rescue!

One of the things I love about HetrixTools monitoring is that they autorun traceroutes when they detect downtime. I use four different monitoring locations, so I get four traceroutes, one from each monitoring location.

I wish they emailed the traceroute outputs, but they don't. The traceroute outputs are available on the web panel, but that's it.

That's pretty damn cool. Finally time for me to try HetrixTools.

Yes, it's fun to try to figure out what happened! Thank you for posting more data! <3

I'm not saying that the outage didn't happen in Chisinau. Maybe it did, and Hetrix didn't catch it. But the outage also could have been somewhere along the line from you to the two servers for which you show ping interruption. Probably beyond the point where your paths to the two interrupted servers diverges from your path to the server where your edited post shows no interruption.

Also, maybe you and @FrankCastle both transit the same intermediate place?

Dude. You let me use this server for free. If I ever actually complain, someone come over here IRL and slap me with a large trout xD
Anyway; I have 5 other VMs (Sweden, France, Germany, Poland) as well as my physical rigs connecting to the FOSSVPS and they lost contact as well, so it's something on that end of the pipes :P

The first outage was so fast that it would be totally reasonable for monitoring not to catch it. Hell, I've had an ISP who polled every 20 minutes (imagine how much I loved having to tell the L1 every damn time that "no, the connection IS down, your systems are just configured in the 1800's. refresh for a while and listen to me in the meantime") so who knows.

Hi, I want to continue using London VPS (not mandatory but I hope I can have dedicate IPv4 if there is dedicate IP left otherwise NAT is OK), the public key is the old one in DM. Thank FOSSVPS team <3

@Not-Oles #455 I need to continue using and reinstall the server. The files inside are too complicated. If possible, I would like a server with a dedicated IP because I have too many services and not enough ports. Thank you very much.

@Not-Oles #455 Sir, I still need to use the London VPS NAT. Is it too late for me to reply now? If not, please help me extend it. Thank you. If you can help me change to a VPS with an independent IP, that would be the best. Thank you very much.

Afraid there are not enough IPv4 addresses available on uk1.fossvps.org (6 in total, 1 already allocated). You do get an IPv6 /96 address range so should have plenty to play with plus of course NAT (ssh + 9 ports).
If I could I would happily assign everyone an IPv4 address but unfortunately these are the limitations.

  • I had a vps on the UK node, will I have to re-apply to get it back?
And I assume FOSSVPS will now focus more on NAT vps?

  • msattmsatt Member, Host Rep

@BasToTheMax yes everything got wiped (for privacy etc), and yes NAT+IPv6 is preferred. There are a few issues on lon1 giving out v4 addresses anyway so currently NAT+IPv6 only. Sent you a PM.
    Mike.
