If a server goes down in a forest and no one is around to monitor it, did it actually go down?

We only keep long-term historical data in AWS DynamoDB, so certain website pages or features (like server monitoring stats, uptime history stats) would load slower than usual or timeout since pulling that data would be slow or timing out.

However, our uptime monitoring system was not impacted by the AWS outage, so detecting outages was unaffected.

Neither were any of our EC2 instances in us-east-1 affected, but an extra unexpected load was detected on them for some reason:

    Cheers.
