this ate me for decades until an existential + work crisis during Covid which somehow made me realize i can still hustle, fly around the world and eat good food drink good whiskies. compared to real unlucky ones in war torn countries, i am blessed.

Yes. Life can be happy. However, the definition of happiness in others also means controlling your happiness, by them being richer than you. In short: true happiness does not exist, because we are all greedy, which is why happiness lasts just a few moments, as we return to wanting more and more. This is why the world is in constant turmoil and struggle for more (searching for some happiness and finding more suffering).
