Its the cheapest way to extend your website's storage, and at the same time offload your hosting server.
It can be used to store various backups, file hosting, private cloud storage you name it,
Usually clusters are replicated 2-3x so files are super safe compared to other storage methods and the list goes on
Makes it easier to allow content to be created on a site without having to migrate to bigger servers.

Regardless of price, its durabillity should be up to 99.99999. I use the company that has their own tech like AWS. I avoid the company that just use third party tech.

It's a more managed storage solution as to buying a server with drives. As others have said about the reliability, availability, and the cloud "pay as you go" schemes which you can pay for every GB you use
Usually isn't the most cheapest if you are looking for $/GB in the long run
