Why are VPS prices in Asia generally higher than in other regions?
I've been wondering about this for a while: Why are VPS services typically more expensive in Asia (like Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea) compared to regions like Europe or North America?
Is the main reason the cost of bandwidth? And if so, why is bandwidth itself more expensive in Asia? Does it come down to infrastructure costs, limited international connectivity, peering arrangements, or government regulations?
Or is it driven by higher operational costs, like salaries for technical staff, real estate for data centers, or electricity?
Maybe it's a combination of these factors, or something else entirely? I'd love to understand the economics behind this price difference.
what's your opinion

Take a wild guess..
Bandwidth and power cost a lot in these regions. I believe it does mostly come down to government regulations, limited connectivity, and peering arrangements.
From what I'm aware, salaries in APAC are usually not as high as they are in the US. However, countries with strong telecommunications infrastructure like Singapore and Japan are limited in terms of space/power, so power costs can be high, resulting in high colocation costs.
Out of any of the regions we launched in, APAC has been one of the most costly and prone to issues (e.g., fiber cuts).
you already answer it. the high operational costs are mainly due to a combination of factors such as high electricity prices, the need for robust cooling systems in the hot and humid climate, and limited availability of advanced infrastructure in some areas.
often governments also have have stricts regulation and expensive/complicated bureaucracy, especially here on SEA region
You answered your own question already.
Does the Asia you are talking about include India? @HostDZire @Digirdp
From what I understand, they offer Indian VPS at a very low price.
generally speaking
In your countries, the population is much higher and therefore the yield will be higher. This is successfully used by business since the VPS in your region mainly buy only your locals.

One of our data center locations is in Singapore... I can tell you that our per cabinet cost is around 3-4 times higher than the US.
The reason for that is 1) high power costs, with Singapore being a small island and 95% of their power being dependent on importing natural gas; there is no other fuel source. While they are planning on building large solar farms in Australia, the complexity of running wiring from Australia to Singapore makes it quite expensive.
And 2) real estate space is expensive, due to them not having much available space, and thus, data centers are expensive to build.
As for bandwidth in APAC: connecting so many different countries to each other, all with very different types of governments and with oceans separating them, it just makes wiring them together more expensive.
In the US, it's easy to run long haul fiber optic along the thousands of miles of train tracks in the country. Plus, Internet volume is larger in the US, and thus, it brings the cost down...
