Advice for multiple Wordpress sites

Hi,

i am thinking about taking over a project network from my buddy which counts 14 wordpress sites. The current hosting setup is not really usable anymore and is out of question for me.

I am experienced in server administration but with wordpress itself i have not much experience. I always tried to avoid it.

Normally i work with Debian + Ansible in most of my projects.

Maybe i am wrong but i think for a dedicated wordpress hosting i should choose something different.

Most of the providers work with cloudlinux OS but does it make sense for hosting under 20 wordpress sites?
Cloudlinux + cPanel or DirectAdmin for maximum security and performance?

For managing the multiple wordpress sites i think i will try:
https://mainwp.com/
Does anyone have experience with mainwp?

I am thankful for any ideas or setups which you think is suitable.

I tried to use mainwp but it was too resource intensive to use on 2 core 4 gb running woocommerce. Introduced more lag than i could tolerate. You might have better success if all the sites are hosted in close proximity or even on the same server.

  • LiteSpeed for WordPress is a solid choice for WP and it is way faster than Apache in most cases. MainWP is fine but can get heavy, so WP-CLI might be easier if you’ve got many sites. Just make sure you’ve got good isolation + backups so one bad site doesn’t slow down everything.
