Need a VPS close to us-east-1

We have a customer DB deployed on AWS RDS in us-east-1 region. We are developing an application that read and write on this DB. W are looking for a non-AWS VPS provider that has a data center in or extremely near Northern Virginia or another nearby US East Coast city to minimize latency and transfer delay. We need an 8c/16GB/120GB VPS

I wouldn't recommend this deployment as will face a noticable latency with DB even if they will be in the same city.

We have Charlotte, NC and NY - either of these will be a good fit. All AMD EPYC DDR5 machines: https://breezehost.io/vps - let me know if you have any questions. Happy to test latency if you give me an IP to check

We’re in Secaucus, NJ (NYC Metro)

    KVM Standard S
    AMD EPYC Milan (8 vCPU)
    16GB DDR4 ECC Memory
    128GB NVMe SSD
    4TB Bandwidth (10 Gbps)
    $16/month

    What do you recommend

  • Here you go https://globalping.io/?measurement=1EjDU6iFg9ToREWo&display=table&by=rtt-last

Check the ASNs of the probes for hosting provider ideas

Hetzner is not bad at 1.7ms and it's cheap

We would be about 6-7ms away in NYC:

    8vcore
    16gb ram
    120gb storage
    8tb on 10gb

    $20/month or $120/year

If you want to dm me an ip you are looking for, I can get you a ping test, or you can use our probe on mtr.tools as well to check for yourself.

If you need ashburn, there are a couple of others you might want to look into: https://ifog.ch/en/vps/vps-ashburn

At PureVoltage.com we currently have 2 VPS deals going on, which fit your requirements.

We look forward to working with you, and be sure to message if you have any questions!

  • @Clouvider has an Ashburn location which would be within a couple ms of AWS east. They have been a great provider for me.

@ManaChetah QuickPacket is in Ashburn. You can test latency here: https://lg.iad.quickpacket.com

If you're interested, please DM me and we can discuss specifics.

I tried the ping test to my us-east-1 ec2 instance from their Ashburn datacenter and ping was way above 12ms

Their US datacenter was giving around 9ms though which was strange

Interesting. I'm pinging one of my Clouvider Ashburn servers from my office about 75 miles (as the crow flies) away and getting 4-8ms response times.

Using a tool like https://awsspeedtest.com/latency from my location to us-east-1, I'm getting about 18ms pings from my office.

Not sure how to interpret all this, but just noting it.

Ping tool was not working. I used mtr and results were good. Can you check the ping tool

Hey! If you are still exploring options, feel free to send me a DM. We can go over some options that best fit your requirements and budget.

  • Latency to US-EAST-1 will be high though as long as AWS US-EAST-1 is down.

  • not anymore you dont

Why is AWS not an option? EC2 or Lightsail seems like the right choice here.

  • I'm guessing they don't want AWS because they don't want to pay for AWS pricing.

Not sure if OP found what they are looking for or not but OVH has 2ms to AWS US-EAST-1

    What do you recommend

Any deployment option outside the AWS region will introduce higher latency with the database.
The ideal approach is to deploy an EC2 or Lightsail instance within the same region as the database.

There might be alternative solutions, but they would require application-level tuning and would likely increase costs — ultimately making the first option (deploying the instance alongside the database in AWS) the most efficient and cost-effective choice.

We already have 3 VPS server running on AWS. The cost is now getting out of hand.

Then it’s time to deploy entire stack outside AWS.
